Ive been reading here about Mobil 1 evidently switching their formula to now use group 3 basestocks instead of group 4. So what now? Which companys make a absolute without a doubt group 4 synthetic motor oil? The list can,t be that long.
Quote:
Mobil1 0w-20, Syntec 0w-30 , and Amsoil full synth product line are all group IV.
An honorable mention is Pennzoil's 0w-20 is made of the enticing group III+. Good luck finding it though.

what are you basing the M1 0w-20 off of?
the japanese M1 page did list all the 0w oils as PAO only, but it didn't seem to have 0w-20 on the list.

farrarfan 1.. Mobil 1 is mostly G-III basestock and has been as far back as NOV. 2004. TOM NJ knows more about synthetic lubricants than ANYONE on this site, and i do mean ANYONE. TOM NJ has years of hands on experience developing synthetic lubricants, he is tops in his field, and so are the people who work with him. When he dose a GC on a basestock he knows what he's looking at. Hope this helps you in making decisions on your lubricants needs.

That's really misleading. The tests showed that some M1 EP grades use mostly Group 3 along with some ester and alkylated napthalene. Each viscosity grade of M1 does use different types and ratios of basestocks. I'm not defending M1 for using Group 3 but we must keep the details of the truth in mind despite our unhappiness.

We also must keep in mind that the Gas Chromatography tests couldn't detect any super high viscosity-super high viscosity index PAOs that Mobil makes and may use in M1 Supersyn oils.
But I still am not pleased with UOAs of XW-20 and XW-30 M1 SM oils, so all this basestock talk is sort of irrelevent to me.

777, is there any chance you smoked some dooby this morning? If not, I'm afraid you get an "F" for not paying attention in BITOG school! LoL
