I think the fact remains that if you look at the kind of fuel economy some Kia and Hyundai are getting, it's not very good compared to the competition. This isn't about "HP per litre" although they're not very good in that measure either. (Also, Nissan is not Kia or Hyundai unless you know something I don't).

As far as taxes go--"privatize profits, socialize costs". Tax the public to pay for the social needs/wants of employees, particularly ones who would not even be here were it not for the company that hired them... I suppose it can be justified by saying, "Well, those goods/services are cheaper now that we have employees that don't cost us very much" but what about the taxpayers who don't use your goods/services and therefore don't reap the "savings"?

This may not be intentional but I sure don't see many politicians doing anything about the situation. They seem to like it.

Here are the EPA ratings for the following 06's:

Hyundai Sonata 235hp 20/ 30mpg
Honda Accord 244hp 20/ 29mpg
Toyota Camry 190hp 20/ 28mpg

Also the Sonata V6 has a much more useable torque curve with 227 pounds at 3500rpm than the Honda's wimpyass 211 pounds at 5000rpms..

Yep.

It's the all new Lambda family 3.3L V6 Hyundai now uses in the Sonata.Got one and it's very flexible and extremely refined.Has a top loading cartridge oil filter to make the oil changes a snap.It also has a transmission dipstick

,getting more rare these days.

Seems like cartridge filters are the new trend.

Only filter I've ever been able to remove without getting one drop of oil where I didn't want it has been a cartridge filter (on a 2.2L Ecotec (not made in China)).

Goes around, comes around. I changed a LOT of cartridge filters in my '60's 283 and 327 sbc's and when the spin-on arrived, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. Unless they have made some REAL advances, you would be hard pressed to get me back to a cartridge. Been there, done that...no thanks !!
I remember my Dad saying how HAPPY people were to get the gear shifter on the column and off the floor where it was always in the way. I guess it would be hard to have a 6spd MT on the column....
P.B.

My 2004 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2L ecotec 140hp Dohc gets 30-33 MPG in the city (Los Angeles) and close to 40mpg on highway trips. Unfortunately, my highway trip to work includes boat loads of mountains.

In Iowa on straight highway I got 45mpg and 43mpg. I will record again when I drive out there this summer to visit family.

These economy cars have pretty unimpressive economy.

The 2004 Jaguar Xj8 I bought for the wife, 4.2L 295 hp V8 in a full size car reports 20.2 mpg. She warms it up a minute, drives 2.4 miles to work and shuts it down again. It probably only gets to run in closed loop a mile or so a day, and with only 8K miles on it, I assume the engine is still pretty tight and the fuel economy will improve.

Hyundai, Toyota, and Honda need to go back to the drawing board, or figure out a way to lighten up the cars, they must be real porkers.

[edit] whoops, these comments should have been in the latest 4 banger thread:

BTW BrianL703, the 2.5 Duratec may be dropped across the Ford line; the Jaguar X type now only uses their variant of the 3.0 where you used to be able to get either the 2.5 or the 3.0 AJ V-6 in the X type.

I nearly laughed out loud at the torque figure somebody quoted for a Honda; I bet I have lug nuts that engine could not break free.

BTW,the Sonata is considered a full size/large car by the Government.

New Sonata is definitely a poker: 0-60 mph - 6.5 seconds. (Motor Trend and Car & Driver separate testing) Stupid Koreans - when are they gonna get it right?...

Hmmm... Come to think of it, isn't that about the same acceleration performance the Honda Accord V6 achieves?

I have a friend that has a kia and went through 6 transmissions. so kia do have probs. and its sad I saw a commecial if you buy one kia they would give you there bottom level car for free. what does this tell me? either one sales are bad, 2 the car has so many problems that the second car is your perm loaner vehicle. when your other car is in the shop? sorry but with a sales program like that it makes me go the other way.

everyone says buy american. but why buy a crappy product that costs twice as much as the same product that made over seas are cheaper and better.

I see this where I work at. I work at a carpet backing plant that was jsut bought out by MOHAWK. they cry quality but when quality cost money. then they say oh it may not be quality but its usable. so what does this tell me they care more about money than quality. I will never buy MOHAWK carpet after seeing how MOHAWK works the same as the previous owners did that sold to MOHAWK,ALADDIAN,SHAW and so on. its all about how much money they can make without putting any back in to the comapny. the new american way I must say.

I owned a ford ranger and only took it in for one prob. my wifes 00 malibu only been in the shop a few times. my 03 dodge dakota seems like it has a second home at the dealership. my moms honda had a clutch designed prob. and would go through clutches ever 20,000 miles. my dads mazda truck (pre ford ranger ) never had a single prob. had over 150,000 before the engine blew. so see every car company has their good ones and bad ones. doesnt matter if foriegn or domestic.

I am sorry for my spelling but never said I was an english major lol

Better actually.
It's also faster than an 06 BMW 330I(6.7 with auto per edmunds.com).

Camry is not an economy car it is a Large Sedan!! I drive mine like I stole it and am running from the cops and I still get 28MPG. When I have the wife and kids on-board I routine get 32-34MPG loaded down with lugage and going 75-85MPH on the HWY.
