To imply that an oil life monitor that does not measure any intrinsic property of the oil such as viscosity,TBN, contamination levels, etc is better than a spectrographic analysis really makes no sense at all. As anyone who flys a private plane and has their lube oil tested on a regular basis. Would they trust the GM oil life monitor in that application - I think not!

The GM system doesn't take into account if the engine is even tuned up and running well. This has a significant effect on oil change intervals, as can variations in fuel quality.
