GM expects to pioneer a new “groundbreaking” EV battery technology

Whats book time on a job like that?

It always seemed Panasonic and Samsung would make the capacity list, but could be under license to other guys.

Cool to hear about progress especially from GM.

I dont excited about whats in anyones lab anymore because its never clear how its going to translate to a given car a what the tradeoffs are.

I hope you have continuing good news and continue to update us.

Not sure on the book time. I did it in a plant on the first Hummer (BET) and Lyriq (BEV) packs built.

Like most EVs the modules are checked for battery voltage differential between cells and modules. If one is out of range, the whole module can be replaced. I bet a dealer could do it in 5 hour.

Overall though everyone is trending to a cell to pack design without modules, like Tesla. This will make the entire pack throw away if a cell fails. For example the current generation 4680 cells in Tesla, the cells are glued into the pack. Not easy to replace.

NPR has an article today on this topic and its pretty good.
