"That's good. I'm really glad you're taking this seriously. Ok, has anyone here ever talked to a ghost?" About a dozen students raise their hands.

"That's a great response. Has anyone ever touched a ghost?" Two students raise their hands. "That's fantastic. But let me ask you one last question... have any of you ever made love to a ghost?"

Billy Bob, in the back of the class, raises his hand. The professor is astonished. He removes his glasses, takes a step back, and says, "Billy Bob, in all the years I've been giving this lecture, no one has ever actually claimed to have slept with a ghost. Why don't you come up here and tell us about it."

Billy Bob replies with a nod and a grin, and begins to make his way up to the podium. The professor says, "Well, tell us what it's like to have sex with a ghost."

Billy Bob replies, "Ghost? ... I thought you said 'goat'!

now XS650 will have to ban himself for a forum violation .......

Like making the condemned build their own gallows.

My house is supposedly haunted. The previous 2 occupants talked to me about it. I desperately want to see a ghost- no luck so far. Some lady told me it's cause they know I don't believe. I even had one experience where I heard my grandma call me while at the farm- chalked in up to imagination. Please ghosts find me.

Ghosts and the paranormal are the result of overactive imaginations, nothing more.

Show me some solid, scientific proof of their existence-something beyond “ghost hunters”, an author trying to sell his book, or overnight AM talk radio crackpots. Until then as far as I’m concerned it’s pure bunk.

Ah ..a semi-agnostic. While the true agnostic admits when they cannot prove or disprove something; offering no opinion, you lean toward the "prove it, I'll believe it" side.

My son and I have discussed what we call (a misnomer, most likely) "quantum entanglements". Neither of us have the capacity to dwell too much above (or is it below) flatlander rhetoric, but we both admit that there is far more that we don't have the capacity to understand ..than we do understand.

That is, I would not be so self glorifying to state that something doesn't exist just because it is unprovable. All things that we accept as real were unprovable at one time. What changed was our ability to understand. Nothing more.

There is a wide variety of spiritual activity that is often observed, but dead people are not the cause - even with some UFO sightings/experiences.
They are almost always demonic activity.

i painted a car once with camouflaged paint so folks could not see going down the road. It was great fun. Pass me my Jack please.

Hope I'm not stepping on a forum no-no. If you feel that there really is a spirit of some sort in your home and it makes you uncomfortable, maybe ask whoever the religious leader of your religion is to do a house blessing (assuming you have a religion).

This whole thread should be a forum no-no -- not in terms of being against the rules, but in terms of people laughing so hard at the OP that they can't even bring themselves to post.

Ghosts have never ever ever been shown to be anything more than the product of quirks of the human mind. It's ridiculous that so many grown, presumably educated human beings are taking the idea seriously. Even saying that feels like having to tell a math teacher that 2 + 2 = 4. Every one of you should have grown out of this a long time ago.

Although, maybe this explains a lot about the quality of discussions in general here, as well as what passes for fact...

The human mind operates on heuristics, not logic. One of those heuristics is agency detection, which means we tend to expect some kind of personal force to be behind odd events; in other words, when something happens, we tend to ask "who did it" instead of "what happened." Another of those heuristics is pattern seeking, which means we require everything we see to fit some kind of pattern; if we can't find one, we make one up. Both of these would have been quite useful to the survival of our distant ancestors on the savannah, which is presumably why we have them. Now, they are just as likely to cause us to go for junk evidence and conspiracy theories in the absence of real evidence and real theories.

Moreover, our minds have a proven capacity to hallucinate. Our emotions (especially anxiety) have a proven capacity to overwhelm logical thought. We are hideously poor statisticians, so our judgments on what is or isn't likely are almost always terrible.

All "evidence" of ghosts comes from subjective experience, and fits very neatly with what you would expect from the flaws we know we have. There isn't a shred of unequivocal objective evidence for their existence. This means there is no reason to believe they actually exist, no argument for believing they actually exist, and a very persuasive argument that they are figments of our imagination.

Still, if you want to insist on the existence of ghosts, go right ahead. Just don't expect to be taken seriously as an adult by anyone who knows the first thing about the human mind.

To each his own. I won't argue with you that they do exist, but I don't think you can prove that they don't exist. It's one of those things that I think you're only certain of after the cessation of living.

Oh boy..... the subject of Ghost is more and more like the subject of Religion...

Let me join in for some fun then. My parents dream about dead relatives all the time but never when saw one when they are awake. The most frequent subjects of their encounter in dreams were the lack of underworld currencies from their relatives because they weren't religious and do the Paper burning rituals on a regular basis. When that happens, my parents would just buy some of these stuff to burn in a ceremony the next day. Not that they believe 100%, but they want to do it just in case they are real.

Me, I never felt a thing even when a mug fly across my house. The first thing I'd do is to look for my meat cleaver in case of a burglar.

Yep.

The UFO phenomenon is nothing but demons? That is awesome!

I know my last episode of this week in BITOG sucked, but I'm gathering some rich material for the next episode!

My mom dreams of her dad sometimes. And usually a day or two afterwards something bad (like a death or major illness or something serious) will happen to someone in the family.

My parents were told that their luck has been so bad lately because of my dad's lack of filial piety towards his dead father. Time to burn stuff. I don't buy this though because my grandpa was a loving man.

come on guys,i dont want to be rude, but there is no such thing such ghost´s. are we kids here or something? if you want to see things, just be awake about two days or so,you´r mind can play some tricks on you. i use to see black spiders and little creatures on the floor for couple seconds from time to time when i was up too long without sleep...

We are not really worried. I don't even know why I thought of it today.
