Does anyone on here use geico car insurance? I'm thinking about switching to them from State Farm for my new truck. Their about $25 cheaper every 6 months, even after changing the following limits: State Farm- full coverage 500 deductible 100k/300k body injury 100/300 underinsured/uninsured 5000 medical payments Geico would be: full coverage 500 deductible 250k/500k body injury 250/500 underinsured/uninsured 100,000 property 10,000 medical payments included mechanical breakdown insurance for when my warranty is up Only thing that worries me is that there is not a Geico agent anywhere near me. For me to max out the limits and get more for cheaper seems like a no brainer for me to switch

They offered me a teaser rate, which was good, but my wife had a zero-point cellphone ticket three years ago that they found, and so they shot the rates way up. Pretty shabby. Yet our local insurance (NJ Manufacturers) gives a dividend and return of premium yearly and was in reality only a bit more than the Geico teaser rate. So beware. We both have absolutely clean, zero point records for years, no accidents, etc., besides that cell phone ticket that was a no-point, not on your record (supposedly) ticket.

I have them and they offer me a very reasonable rate considering my age (23) and one at falult accident that totaled my car over 4 years ago and the fact that my car is a 2007. I pay about $580 every six months. Everyone else was in the $600s. I was told that I also get a special rate because my father has been with them for 39 years. Whether that is true or not I'm not sure. Btw, what is this "included mechanical breakdown insurance"? I never saw an option for that on their site.

I have had them for a few years now and they have paid a glass claim and a small damage claim where I went off the road a little to avoid a deer and ran into a rock that damaged the radiator. But I am in the sticks in NY. I do not worry about a local agent. I have them on my PC, Droid and normal phone call. What would an agent do for me? Give me the warm fuzzies?

I used them for years but never had a claim. I switched to State Farm mainly because my house insurance went way up and State Farm house insurance was better. Having a local agent wasn't a concern to me since if you have a claim they are going to kick it up to someone in the regional office anyway.

I think that NJ maufactures is a NJ resident only insurance company. I've heard, from friends who work for the State of NJ, the rates are better than anyone else in the Garden State.

An agent well, well a tough claim arises and you need someone on your side an agent comes in handy. Geico does have some agents depending on the market. I have been with Erie for over 10 years. currently 3 cars for an ANNUAL premium of 979 with 500,000 liability full collision etc. Depends 0n the cars, driver record, credit rating, claims and age

I've had Geico for 5 years now - they gave me the best rate by far. All I've used them for so far was the optional roadside assistance when I locked my keys in the car. I should add also, that there are a few agents in Rochester - this came in handy once with a little snafu when we removed insurance on a vehicle before de-registering it.

I had Geico when driving my old car. They wanted to jack my rate a lot when getting the new car, so they went. I had no issues with them. Their customer service has been great when I needed to speak with somebody.

I left GEICO about twenty five years ago because their policy was to only pay for aftermarket parts for accident repair. That was a major consideration for me but it may or may not be for you.

Which insurers don't require the use of aftermarket parts? The last time I went rate shopping, it seemed like everyone my broker recommended had a clause about using non-OEM parts. The only exception was a company that was affiliated with Chrysler and insured Jeeps.

I used to use Geico and never had any problem with them or their claims process over the course of about 15 years. I dumped them because when I moved to a new state, my rates were bumped up close to 40% because I moved to a "high claim zip code" and there was absolutely nothing they could do, regardless of who I talked to. What's funny is when I called to cancel, their retention department was able to offer rates lower than what I was previously paying.

When I switched, I went to State Farm, which at that time did not require aftermarket. I haven't done any research lately, so you may be right that most (or all) now have that same provision.

At least for policies in my state, State Farm has an aftermarket parts clause in our contracts. I'm not sure if there's any way to pay a higher premium for a waiver.

My mom is a State Farm agent, and she can tell you that in terms of customer service and dealing with other companies- Geico is one of the worst. Getting them to actually pay out on a claim for an at-fault collision is like pulling teeth, or so she says.

When I had my at fault collision, they were very quick and easy. The agent actually met us with the check at Carmax while we were looking at replacement cars.

It's more than just NJ residents. You have to work for a member company that dealers with NJM.

In a recent deer crash, the only aftermarket part they used was the passenger fender, which was CAPA certified part. The rest was all OEM (bumper, radiator support, & headlight)

Ironically, when I had my accident a few years ago and got my new car, my rates went down!

TRUE! Many years ago, I worked as a claims adjuster and Geico was the worst to deal with. You get what you pay for and any claim or ticket and then your teaster rates skyrocket. I've been with State Farm for 25+yrs and no body can beat their rates and they are fair. Geieco = NO.
