I've had State Farm for 20+ years, but lately the rates seem to be getting outrageous. I've never shopped around though because I like the agent and the customer service is very good. 1 claim I've ever had was easily handled. I have 5 vehicles insured with them 2 full coverage and 3 liability along with a personal articles policy and was looking to add the camper. After I got the camper quote (11yo Jayco) for $570 a year I decided I'd call Good Sams club and get another quote just for fun. They quoted $240.. They also went ahead and quoted all my vehicles since they had the info and they are 40% less than State Farm for identical coverage levels.. I was a little shocked honestly. I have not doubt I'd get better service from State Farm in the event of a claim, but am considering (especially for the liability only vehicles) swapping them over. National General is the insurance company..

State farm Annual Premium for 3 liability only cars (07 Mazda, 88 F-150, 87 Samurai) : $2166
National General Annual Premium for 3 liability only cars (07 Mazda, 88 F-150, 87 Samurai): $1004

Clean driving record with no accidents or claims..

I have no direct experience with national general, but from what I’ve seen of them, they continually rank at the bottom of insurance company ranking charts

You need to shop and change your insurance every few years to stay competitive. They all play this game. You will need to change again in a few years.

I have no knowledge of National General. You should look up any insurance companies credit rating on AM best - and make sure you have the right one because a lot of the names are similar. Your agent should be able to send you the link to their rating.

It definitely can pay to shop around, but I don't tend to do it either. However, with my homeowner's policy at renewal and getting hit with a huge increase (no claims) I'm shopping.

As mentioned above, there's more to insurance than price, coverage details and reputation are important.

State Farm is premium insurance and they can command high fees.

Below are my takeaways after observing things for some time:
1) I actively fire any insurance company if they raise my premium. Loyalty hasnt helped me with essentially zero claims in the past several years.
2) Ignore combining policies for supposed savings. Its now a lie. Get individual quotes. My homeowners and car policies have been separate for a few years now.

I got a flyer a few weeks ago from Allstate with a rate lower then my existing rate, so we'll see. Stay on top of things and dont be lazy.

Sorry, there is nothing exceptional about State Farm ( and I say that after being a customer of theirs for 16 years.)
I dumped them 32 years ago and life has been just fine.
The NG quote has shown you that insurance can be had for less.
Find a good independent agent (or agent), or an insurance broker and get an array of quotes.
Do some independent research of your own and find out who the best providers are in your area, and make sure that you get quotes from those companies.
Shopping around can be financially beneficial. I convinced my 80 year old FIL to shop his house and car. He is now getting better coverage for both and saving over 2K/year.

I shop around every six months. It doesn't take much time and can save you a lot of money. The insurance companies will often quote really good prices to get you onboard and then start raising the rates from there. Have a look at AAA insurance. They beat everyone easily in my latest go round.

Rates are all over the place depending on where you live (among other things), but $1000/yr for 3 old liability only cars is a good deal.

I cover 5 cars, 2 are liability only. Wife, myself and 3 kids 23F, 21M, 19M. Had a good deal going with NY Central Mutual for a few years. They are cancelling me next month due to the fact I filed two deer hit claims between 2023-24 and one glass claim. Zero claims in 20+ years prior to this. Clean driving records for all, excellent credit, etc. What a nightmare it was to find a carrier in this situation. I went from paying ~$5k/year to $10K. Every carrier I spoke with cried the blues on how costs are way up, etc. I'll shop around again once the dust settles, but what a predicament.

Last I knew National General was owned by Allstate.

We have had our 1996 Prevost Liberty motorhome insured by Natl Gen for 11+ yrs. No issue(s).
Full "agreed value" coverage.

We have "actual cash value" full coverage on the rest of our vehicles w/State Farm for 16+ yrs. No issue(s).

We have never made a claim. Perfect driving records and 815 credit score.

I got another quote from Allstate and it was even lower. Essentially 57% less money than I've been paying State Farm for the same home/auto coverage.. Hard to believe. Their local agent is one of the best rated in my area as well on google. 4.9 stars over 600 reviews.
