Geely EVs to enter US market

For decades Chinese products were considered cheap and inferior. Now that the US, South Korean, European, and Japanese automakers also make cheap and inferior products, what's the difference? The race to the bottom, symbolized best by how many millions of recalled engines there are this year, has effectively opened the world market to Chinese automakers.

If I'm buying garbage anyway, I guess it's best to buy the cheapest garbage, and that's a niche the Chinese can fill.

So GM has them on fire sale already? If so they should be very popular.

All of the ones above show customer cash - which is all the rebates listed. They all have requirements most won’t meet. I would meet a couple presumably.
No, I think everyone gets the $8,000 discount plus dealer discount. The additional rebates are listed are just that additional rebates.
Here is why. The rebates listed far exceed the $8,000 customer cash/
These ads caught my eye here locally as well on the NC side of the border. I think this is all legit.

One thing I am sure of, they are nice looking cars!

WOW! Well, I don;t understand why GM is doing it, maybe the result of the expiration of taxpayers funding EVs
or
like maybe what China would try and GM seems to want to grab some market share. Bad news for other companies with just EVs to sell.

These sales are real, anyone can go to GM's website,
This is all within 120 miles from me but I only put that in for a wide area. Many of these places are not even 1/3rd that distance

https://www.chevrolet.com/shopping/inventory/search/equinox ev?cashOffers=26-40ACA-1&paymentType=CASH&radius=120&sort=distance,ASC&zipCode=28469

These are all available right now. Darn I love the looks of them, one nice white one, many can be picked up for $30,000 (or within $2,000 near that price range depending on dealer) GM incentive wants you to own a non GM vehicle for some of these offers but that is only $1,200 of the offer from what I see. Dont get me wrong I am sure some dealers will bait you but this is GM site and some you can start the process online with some dealers.

Perhaps if they were popular there would be no need for a fire sale?

I am not sure about that. I will need to look into it further when I am sitting in front of a computer. But this is what GM themselves say.

I have to believe the GM incentives are to help offset the loss of the tax credit. We bought our '18 Model 3 in Dec 2018 in part due to the $7500 credit, which was halved on Jan 1. At that time, Tesla lowered the price of the Model 3 by $3000 as I recall.

Same difference, perhaps? Regardless, they have to move vehicles and inventories may be too high.

These vehicles don't have Android Auto or Carplay and will need a subscription for some infotainment functionality once the initial subscription period expires. I think GM may be banking on this residual revenue.

Perhaps they are grabbing market share? possibly decimating the all EV maker in the USA who is losing sales and market share each and every year. Kind of like a loss leader if you think about it since it's only a tiny portion of their business.
Who knows right?

Try trading one in if you were to buy it and feel you made a mistake and want out. ;)

Tell me about it, we’re very upside down on ours. But if you account for the over $4,000 in fuel savings across 23,000 miles so far, the math does kinda math.

The Equinox EV is a great looking car inside and out. Especially the white ones. Maybe I’m biased though. ;)

It’s also an insane value compared to any other new car given the deals right now. When we got ours the deals were not quite as good but still very good which is one of the reasons we picked it up.

Just swap out the awful 21” wheels if you get the RS trim. Either with someone with the 19s or go for smaller wheels off a different Chevy! I’ve attached pics of ours with the 18s we swapped to as well as the original wheels.

Ours is RS FWD but if I were to get another one I’d get an LT AWD. Because the FWD one feels so darn slow compared to my Tesla and because of the aforementioned 21” wheels having very expensive tires and harsh ride over rough roads. Not sure what they do with our tax dollars but it sure isn’t fix the roads!!

Either way, if you can now buy a legitimate EV suitable for a small family for $30K, it will be an excellent test for the overall market. I would look forward to seeing how they do. $30K is below the threshold for a new RAV4.

All valid points, and I agree because they work for you, and you like EVs. Here's the rub: Would you buy something you don't like? I mean something you really don't like. I won't, even for all the savings you mentioned. Lets not forget I live in NY, we don't get beaten over the head with the gas prices like you guys in CA do. So the savings will be less, and the insurance would be more vs. an ICE vehicle for me. Bottom line I don't buy things I don't want or don't like. I think most people here would agree with me, even if they own and love an EV. Some might say my vehicles are useless, garbage, slow and inefficient. Care to guess what I would say....... ;)

FTR it's all good!!

Spot on; I wouldn't. IMO, there are 2 criterion for me to buy anything:
  1. Does it fit my use case?
  2. Do I like and/or want it?

So are these guys in Canada yet? That's usually a good way of getting stuff reliable, rust resistant, and suspensions tuned for North American sensibilities (IE, soft.)

That's how Hyundai got their start, selling Ponys up North. They weren't great, but they were cheap, and apparently liked for that alone.
Perhaps another month. The first ones will probably be Teslas. The BIL is keeping an eye at the offloading facility at Annacis Island outside New Westminter on the Fraser River near Vancouver.

I agree, yet when I post in these threads I feel like I'm on trial. In a sick twisted way I enjoy it. ;) This is America, and we can still buy whatever we want whenever we want [assuming we can afford it] and not have to justify our reasons. And once again even EV haters can and should participate and learn from these threads.

Oh yeah, I agree that people should have choices. I honestly don't care what you drive as long as it's safe.
