Geely EVs to enter US market

The problem with this pricing is, GM is losing their shirt to move cars. This is unsustainable, aka bad business.
Gaining market share is bad business? Advertising products at sale pricing while introducing a new product to a companies lineup?
Didnt Tesla lose its shirt in 2025 as well? I would think so with a 46% decline in profit AKA that is not good business practice

I'm hoping Slate.auto becomes a valid competitor and we won't have to worry about "Geely" or "Cherry" or other weird imports here.

I'll just add to this thread rather than start a new one. Canada has just announced, today, a rebate of up to $5,000 on EV's. It a Federal program and starts Feb 16. The Chinese made EV's have a 6% Tariff and won't qualify. Only EV's covered in a free trade agreement will qualify.

I think Slate will be an excellent choice for fleets that need small trucks. For example it would be perfect for delivering auto parts. BUT on the retail side it's not going to do well. It's just too expensive. Maybe if they offered a proper four door SUV with the larger battery option as standard for under $30K they'd sell some. Like we've discussed you can get a new Equinox EV that does 300 miles and has a fully featured comfortable interior for the same price as what the Slate truck will start at. Then the new Bolt will be even cheaper?

Good points.

Hopefully they move into a more popular consumer friendly vehicle like the bolt. Their initial model might be a test of the concept, and most certainly will scale up.

A lot of consumers have been asking where the stripped down, inexpensive, vehicles are. No power windows or speaker is a bit bare bones for me, but some people might like the customization options it offers. I hope it's successful. It's nice to have options, even if yhey don't suit my particular needs.

yes, that is for $10,000 not the $8,000 when you have time, I posted the link to GM website showing everything
Well I must say that the GM website was written by a 10 year old in India. Having said that, if in fact "customer Cash" is for everyone without conditions, then it is or at least very close to $30K - so I stand corrected. Someone needs to go try to buy one and see if you actually can.

It will be interesting to see. It puts it in range with things like a Corrolla Cross - so they should be popular if in fact people want EV's.

They should add CarPlay as an option for an extra $1000. I’d pay in a heartbeat!
I still think GM shot themselves in the foot with this. No way I buy a new car without Carplay - full stop. I am sure I am not the only one.

Just like a very vocal group of people wants cars to be available with manual transmissions. But manufacturers discontinue it because they sell like a dozen a year? If you look what people buy, both new or used, it's mostly more feature-packed vehicles. Some of this has to do with what they make available, but consumers could vote with their wallet and only buy basic vehicles... but they don't, they want heated steering wheel, power windows, wireless phone charging, adaptive cruise control, automatic headlights, auto-park, etc. etc. etc.

Yeah, heck if they made CarPlay require an OnStar subscription for $20/mo I'd accept it. It's so dumb because the software does exist (Honda Prologue proves this) they just disable it to screw you.

And yes if you hang out in Equinox EV Facebook groups like I do people have posted their deals. You CAN buy these - the cars and deals do exist. Yes some dealers try to jack up the price with typical BS addons and extended service contracts but many consumers are able to get that stuff removed and pay the price on the website plus doc fee plus tax and reg fees. Try that on a new hybrid Toyota whatever - these dealers act like everything they sell is pure gold and you will pay whatever they ask.

Prices change all the time. If these cars, or any car, were moving off dealer lots, you wouldn't see these incentives. January and February are great times to buy a car, because they are some of the slowest sales months for dealerships. This is due in large part to the Holiday season.

GM increased production due to growing demand. The Equinox EV is performing well, finishing 2025 as the best-selling non-Tesla electric vehicle in the U.S. Inventories are considered high right now. Hence the incentives.

Manufacturers, especially big factories, like a known, even demand. It's called a "Linear Production Rate" to plan the factory and especially procurement. Unfortunately that not how the car sales end works.
