Gear Oil to Remove Sludge and clean out the Inside

According to my dad, gas would be added to the oil just so the aircraft engine would crank and fire. Once the engines had warmed up, the gas/oil would be dumped and refilled with oil (quickly!) and then the aircraft would fly. The engines otherwise would not start with the heavy monograde.

This is one of the craziest ideas I have ever heard of.
Like so many of these ideas, if there were any merit, you would find these on the shelves of auto supply stores.

Many gear oils, especially the GL5 oils contain sulphur and chlorine as anti wear additives which are corrosive to the metals used in rod, main and cam bearings. Keep gear oil in the gear cases and use a good cleaner such as Kreen or MMO for the engine.

if you want to remove sludge why not use a dedicated engine flush product, do an oil change with inexpensive oil for 100-150 miles to dilute/remove leftover engine flush, and then do another oil change with your preferred stuff...should do the trick
