You should have gotten the sushi. Nothin beats gas station sushi.
Yes I am certain most commercial kitchens are terrible. QT makes your food in the open. You can watch. I have no idea if that makes it any better. As a kid I ate lunch from a sack that in the summer sat in the sun for a while before I ate it in some field or jobsite. Possibly why I can more or less eat anything now without much issue?Way back in my youth I pumped gas at a Texaco station. There was an onsite deli that was privately owned. The station owner had its own employees, the deli its own employees, both groups becoming friends over time. I got friendly with one of the young women who worked there and, OMG, the things she told me. I was surprised there wasn't an epidemic of deaths caused by that deli.
This reminds me of a later job I had as a warehouseman at an industrial supply company. This business had several sales reps. One of them had a territory on the Monterey California Peninsula. A beautiful area. John Steinbeck country. $$$$$. I remember him saying how horrible the conditions and cleanliness of some of the kitchens were in some of the areas finest restaurants.
That was 50 years ago and his comments have stuck with me to this day. I am very particular where I dine out.
Remember the old "24 hour flu" that people used to get years ago? In hindsight I think it was food poisoning.

Anything in particular?Hit up a Circle K I'm just saying.
No different than most restaurants. Or even the grocery store in a lot of ways for that matter.99% of the "food" available is high carb, highly processed junk.
I won't touch that pre-packaged Whole Foods sushi. You should have gotten the sushi. Nothin beats gas station sushi.![]()
The local grocery chain "Harris Teeter" which was bought out by Kroger still makes the sushi right behind the glass counter - and you can watch. Its all pre cooked ingredients - not really sushi. Imitation crab, shrimp, california is obviosly veggie. They roll and package and set it out in the cooler. Not saying its great, but I have eaten it too.I won't touch that pre-packaged Whole Foods sushi.

Don't get my wife started on that. She'll come home after a Wawa gas fill-up and rant to me for half an hour about some inconsiderate miscreant blocking the pumps. Not for me
What really chaps my hide…
People fuel up then leave vehicle at pump
Go inside store and do what ever
Move your car pard….
Some people don’t even intend to purchase gas and still park in front of a pump. Not for me

Gas station food
WaWa
Buc-ee's
Point of clarification - those places no longer consider themselves gas stations. They are food-focused convenience stores that also happen to sell fuel.
I've ran across a few gas stations that have excellent broasted chicken. The amount of meat on the pieces are enormous and the breading/seasoning are great. Only problem is it takes quite a bit of time to broast it apparently so you can't order it and wait to get it fresh. They tend to make a number of batches during the day and when they run out, they're done for the day.fried Chicken. Depending on the place it could be good - but was only usually served around lunch time
This^^^^. Once I stopped eating questionable foods from questionable places, I've never had the 24 hour bug again.Remember the old "24 hour flu" that people used to get years ago? In hindsight I think it was food poisoning.
I am pretty sure if the office crowd rolled in to one of these places at 5AM they would be shocked at the traffic.Won't lie, I've eaten more than my share of gas station hot dogs and tornados. Especially when I was a satellite TV technician, it was hard to take time to have a proper lunch. Now-a-days when I'm traveling, I'll look for a gas station that has a fast food franchise attached to it, like BK or Subway. It's not the best, but at least I know what to expect.
I swing shifts weekly (day and afternoon), and I hate to admit it but on afternoon week at 2am on the way home I'll stop at Sheetz probably 2 times. I live in a rural area and a sheetz is the only thing open 24hrs. I'll order my food in app, pay for and pump my ethh 88 gas in app and go in an pickup food. I'm in PA and I know sheetz vs wawa is heated, I'll say this. Wawa is trash
Right - just another reason to argue thread bcs you like toGas station food in the South used to mean fried Chicken. Depending on the place it could be good - but was only usually served around lunch time. Not many left. Parkers Kitchen serves OK tenders - but its sort of a regional thing.
I recently went to WaWa for the first time - in Georgia - had a breakfast burrito. I was quite underwhelmed. I had heard here they have the best Hoagies so I might need to try them next time.
I have done Buc-ee's 3 times - twice the brisket sandwich, once a salad. All three were poor at best - 3 different stores. I fail to see the hype honestly, which is why I gave them 3 chances.
Best so far at a chain - QT turkey wrap - excellent for gas station grub. My bride likes soft serve and there soft serve cone is OK as well.
Others opinions?

Good idea - likely an actual restaurant a mile away …Coffee and a buttered roll is as far as I go for gas station food.
