gas stabilization results after 2 months

I started with 1oz of 87 BP gasoline doped it with a drop of water and with various gas additives dosed according to the instructions, except for TCW3 where I followed Mercruiser FI winterising protocol of 9% TCW3. Brass screw with thread covered with aluminum foil was added to test for corrosion.

After 2 months here are the results for screws (from left: Stabil, TCW3, Seafoam, Control, MMO, and Stabil+Seafoam):

My take: Stabil is clearly winning in deposits and corrosion. The worst results in both deposits and corrosion is MMO. Gasoline without additives is somewhere in between. Seafoam and TCW3 are disappointing.

However, I decided to run this longer 1-2 months.
Why? The deposits so far are oily and sirup-like substances and don't match the solid green layer that I saw in my carb during rebuild.

Those are some interesting results. Would love to see them replicated without the drop of water, but maybe a small pinhole in the bottle top.
 
The weird thing about it, a month ago, every jar had some deposits (MMO was worst by far and Stabil and pure gas control were the best). Now as gas evaporated entirely, the deposits got back into solution in Stabil. This is why I want to continue to see the solid deposits in every jar and compare them.
 
I did the drop of water to simulate for moisture in the open carb environment. I suspect without moisture results will be different. Again this test is see what happens to gas sitting in carb bowl-like open environment in heat of the summer. It has no bearing on closed fuel systems like FI.

I also forgot to mention aluminum had no corrosion, except for MMO. MMO had also some algae/fungus biofilm. One thing is clear to me: I will never use MMO as gas stabilizer or winterizing oil.

MMO at best might clean some things, but its not a gas stabilizer and it has a negative effect on the lubricity of oil as I have pointed in in prior posts.

I use Sta-Bil for fuel for storage so the fuel won't go bad.
I had a small engine repair shop and all carbs and some gas tanks would get nasty internally. Stabil did not prevent varnish/gum when things dried out. These engines were routinely stored and used 1/2 season .

I am surprised by the whatever residue from MMO. I have not experienced deposits or problem with it over the years. I used it in Judsen Superchargers, helping clean out and unstick old engines, lubing air tools, and regularly in fuel.

The problem with MMO was it grew some kind of black-gray biofilm in the interface of aluminium, water, and gas with MMO. The same biofilm is probably responsible for the aluminum corrosion. I don't know, maybe using biodegredable wintergreen oil in it is not such a good idea?
 
Up here, I've seen the Stabil blue, and the Stabil red much more commonly, of course. I saw something new the other day from Stabil. It was called ethanol treatment or some such thing. In the bottle, the fairly clear contents had separated into two distinct levels, about half and half. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to read the bottle or look much more closely into it.

I would like to see how Amsoil Gas Stabilizer & Stabil Marine would do.
 
Stabil has performed an excellent job for me through the years. I have stored several vehicles for assorted lengths of time over the last 12 years, and Stabil has never let me down. Most were stored 1 year, and once I stored a truck for over 2 years. Many people don't know this, but Stabil says in the fine print that you can use 2X the dose and do a two year storage. The truck fired right up!
 
I got loads of Stabil on clearance at Target. I'm good for a few years...

My boat engine had brass jets screwed into aluminum carb.
