Another good add on to any garage is a key or keypad. Its good for in case your forgot your keys or remote doesn't work.

About 1993 a Federal law was enacted requiring the IR sensors. Mine is chain drive also. Very powerful. The door is a commercial steel door 16' X 10' high. It's to heavy for me to open with my bad back. The original builder had trucks. House was built around 1971. Don't know when the garage built, probably 72 or 73.

I just looked at the opener and its 1/3hp. The original remote is still in good condition uses 9V battery, good range too. When we first moved in to the house the garage door was the one piece (old fashioned?) kind which was heavy to open manually. A few houses around here still have that one piece door, garage entrance is distinctly different as they need extra clearance to swing upward. Changed to the door to the piece kind (commonly seen) shortly after.

What if it's Tiny with a machete, and he wants to come in?

That reminds me back when I was younger and used to like that Indiana Jones stuff. My friend used to like to do that Indiana Jones stunt where he would roll under the door just before it closes and grabs his hat. Don't try this at home. One time he went in a little slow and door came down and as soon as it touched door reversed. I was surprised and thought the door would keep coming down. That was way back before I knew anything about mechanical stuff. Both of us were surprised that there was a safety feature. Didn't play with that anymore of course.
