That makes no sense at all.Why have ALL other Ford engines (diesels excluded) use 5W20 and spec. 5W30 just for this engine?
I asked a Ford engineer this question at the Farm Progress Show and never did get an answer. He just beat around the bush.
This is what the consensus is.
All the ecoboosts are direct injected and turbo charged. 5w-30 handles the heat from the turbos and the fuel dilution better, for more of a "safety factor." You can dilute a 5w-30 into a 5w-20 just by fuel getting into the oil but I wouldn't want to dilute a 5w-20 any further.
However, Castrol in Germany and ford have created a "special spec" 5w-20 for the ecoboosts overseas. I'm curious to see if that will eventually make its way over to the states.
