Fuel shortage

My area dried up yesterday afternoon. I live along the I-95 corridor (and saw this coming) so I filled up yesterday morning.

I've got ~700 miles. 🤷

These guys hired a security firm - anyone who works with IT security know they are risk averse and will not rush despite the situation at hand … these bugs multiply like the name implies …

It's making for an insanely quiet night for me. No activity coming from the uniform patrol guys as they're all parked in different areas of the county answering calls only and not doing proactive traffic stops. The whole county has been pretty much radio silent for the last 2 hours. And that is 3 city departments and county.

I mean I didn't fill up because of the shortage, but because I had 1/8 of a tank lol. Although I usually fill up at around 0 miles range so I guess I was feeling a bit like a prepper.
My mom instilled this fear of being below half a tank into my skull when she was teaching me how to drive… I put 15 gallons into my 26 gallon tank lol

Working in Gainesville, FL today. No sign of lines, etc. I am staying at the huge hotel corridor right off I75. Thought prices a bit high for Florida, 2.89-2.99 for regular unleaded. Maybe things will change today. I will be working in Columbia, SC tomorrow.

Absolutely shocking one vendor can (potentially) bring down the fuel supply to the east coast of the USA. I am quite sure our adversaries are taking notice (and not talking about Russia).

By the way, the pipeline system also carries jet fuel for domestic and military use. Military?

At first the fuel shortage was due to a lack of truck drivers. This has been made worse with the pipeline hack. The worst thing people can do is to start hoarding fuel. I went thru something similar in 2017 when AMLO ( the pres of mex) shut down fuel pipelines to stop theft, then realized PEMEX had 5% of the necessary trucks in operation to move fuel. Mexico city (population 22M) had severe shortages and people where limited to 10liters but it only lasted 3 or 4 weeks. Don't panic and if possible plan your trips to avoid unnecessay trips.Hopefully it wont last too long.

If I want to fill up a couple of 5 gallon jugs to make sure I can get to work over the next week.... Too **** bad. If that is called hoarding, then sucks to be everyone else.

So part of my Sunday night ritual is to top-up all my Vehicles whether they need it or not. This is the proactive approach that I started after one of the Hurricanes ( can’t remember which one, mid 2000’s) came up the coast and devastated the power infrastructure for 2 weeks, shutting down all gas stations. Not that there is an issue with gas stations shutting down up here, but it’s a good feeling to know that I’m prepared if they do.

So far this is just panic buying. If everyone in a community is going to get gas there are going to be lines and they are going to run out.
The panhandle of FL is supplied by the pipeline. The rest of florida is supplied by ship out of JAX and Miami ports.
The pipeline doesn't supply gas stations directly, there are hubs in between with some storage capacity of their own.

I'm in panhandle. Long lines yesterday. Gas station I passed this morning no lines no shortage.
So your hoarders are also lazy or late to work.
