Fuel filter time.....

Since I had to recently replace the starter (It made it to ten years on a Cavalier!

), I've decided to up the time table on other stuff I need to do....so, I'm picking up a few Napa branded Dex cool, and replacing the fuel filter. Since I'm planning on using the codes at AAP, it gives me a choice of AC Delco, Fram, or Purolator, and Driveworks. Any difference between them?

Also, going to get a long time needed fuel system cleaning (not just stuff in a bottle) Haven't tried this since our Neon, but I truly think after 10 years, it's time to really clean it out.

Comments and suggestions welcome. Wife refuses to give this things up, so I'm going to keep the updates going...

I believe you can never go wrong with OEM, but Purolator should be fine as well.

I will never again use a FRAM fuel filter. My sister's Taurus had one rust so badly it was leaking. I also had one rust severely, although not to the point of leaking. Both of these filters were only about a year and a half old, while a Motorcraft filter on a third car still looked almost new in that same time frame, so it wasn't environmental conditions...

AC Delco will be fine...even if the name is now just a marked-up relabeled aftermarket part supplier.

I don't think you're being fair.

Motorcraft oil filters are made by Purolator but are NOT the same as any Purolator-branded filter. ACD filters may be made by Champion, but they are made to GM's specs.

Again, I'm sure the AC Delco fuel filter will be fine. But since a lot of AC Delco oil filters were E-Core, I really don't have too much faith in GM's spec.

I am becoming a purolator fan lately...just over a month ago, changed the fuel filter in our old ranger,AAP had purolator in stock for cheap. Works great, fits fine, does great job....Not scientific by any means, but if they are as good as their oil filters, I am happy.

I'd go purolator or wix. Good luck getting the old one off, expect to need to at least replace the quick disconnect end, available on any help rack for $20 in an all plastic design that wont rust. The threaded end is also a unique flare that cat be reproduced at home, to avoid chancing things, when I did mine, I spun the filter off instead of spinning the nut.

Yeah, there is a tiny bit of rust, so I need to be careful...
