I changed the fuel filter on my 2004 Crown Vic tonight. Well, I got the old filter off and put the new one on and realized the fuel connectors are not staying on. The connectors use these stupid brittle plastic clips I broke when I first changed the filter at 25k miles. I thought the clips were just a backup and the actual hold down is a metal clip internal to the connector like I have seen prior. Previously I electrical taped the clips in and looked for a filter that came with the clips in the mean time. I could not find any locally, so I purchased a purolator filter online in hopes that it came with new clips. No dice. Well, I put it on anyway and now I see how precarious it really was running around with these clips using gravity to hold the connectors on..
Anyone know of a filter with these clips or where I can find some?

Colt, a Ford parts dealer department might be your best bet here. You should PM Bdcardinal, I think he works in a Ford parts department.

Well, I found a dorman part number for a 5 pack (800-122.5) but no one seems to have them available locally. Well, of those that have online setups. There are a couple places I need to call, but I doubt they would have it on hand or be able to get it on a Saturday. That is if the Ford dealer has none.
Also, I seen now that Napa filters come with the clips. They didnt before I dont think... That will be my other option if nobody has them.

Chances are good the clips that come with the Napa filter will NOT fit.
Let me explain . . .
When I first got my Mercury, I changed the filter. I bought a Fram from Wallymart that had new plastic clips in the package. Looked like the same plastic clips I've used on other Fords, especially my Aerostar. No problem!
Well when I went to install the new clips, they would NOT fit. They were similar in appearance but slightly bigger than what I needed. I went to Ford and showed them. The parts guy smiled and said Yes Ford changed the size. We have them, but you might want to sit down. They were like 9.00 a clip! No kidding! He said the Motorcraft filter does NOT come with new clips either.
I found out afterwords that my Napa did have the correct clips in stock and they are MUCH cheaper. I'm due to change the filter again here soon and I will get the clips FIRST before I get the filter.

Yeah, I looked up the ford number given on titus will and it lists for $6.80.
Arg! Stupid cop out to leave them out of the packaging. I cant imagine at that it would cost more than an additional $0.25 per filter to drop a set in the box with it.

Well I seen mention in that CVN thread of using zipties to hold the clips and that is what I have done for now. I ordered a pack off rock auto to fix it properly.

The last filter for the Escape I bought at Napa and it had those clips. I didn't have to use them since I've gotten good a removing them without having to tear them up. I don't think the previous purolator had them.

FWIW we have those clips in bags in bulk that we keep for when our techs slaughter them, the aftermarket ones are identical to the Ford ones btw. It really would be nice if they would toss them in the boxes with the new filters, it would save so much heartache on the parts end of the deal.

Just be glad you don't have one of the newer setups where if you break the clip you buy an entire new fuel/brake line assembly that goes from the filter to the fuel rail. At least the newer Fords don't have a fuel filter anymore so that isn't as big of a problem.
