"DEX VI is now a chemistry-based fluid license, rather than a performance-based license. To qualify for licensing by GM under DEX VI, you must use a proprietary chemical additive package. No longer can you just perform the same as DEX VI; rather, you must now be chemically identical to, DEX VI."

You do know good blenders buy additives from the same core additive manufacturers, right? There might be some price point discussions, but the suppliers are not selling "worser" add packages.
Wear? Not sure there have been detailed wear studies comparing ATFs . Amsoil does long term testing in real vehicles.
Heat resistance, sure good aftermarket ATF's use better base oils that just last longer, shear less, and have superior heat resistance than factory fluid. Amsoil ATF passes the ABOT test with some reserve capacity.
No magic, it's just entirely possible to formulate a better ATF than factory ATF.
