You can't buy anything but Fram filters at Kmart, now that Penske and Castrol have been phased out. Fram seems to be taking over at WalMart too, with SuperTech going the way of the edsel. I just hope they keep stocking Motorcrafts for only $2.77. Whats the deal? Where can you buy Penske or Castrol filters now? Ive got PepBoys, AutoZone, and Napa here to get filters at, but no Kragen, Shucks, Checkers, Murrays. Ive never even heard of those places. What's happening to the filter market?

Funny thing is, my local K-Mart doesn't even have an application book on the shelf. They probably wonder why don't sell many filters.

K-mart was the only place Penske/Castrol oil filter were ever sold. (Penske being their base cheap brand and Castrol being their better grade filter/like Napa's silver-gold line of filters which just so happen to be made by Wix's also, same as K-mart's were) They were K-mart own house brands which were made for them by Wix. With their bankrupcey they dicided to stop contracting out for house brands and just carry what can be bought directly from one company and Fram got the contract.

I was just in a large Kragens today. One entire wall was Fram orange with a small area of Penzoil yellow (Same crap, different color). The wall of Orange actually wrapped about 10% of the way down the next wall.

Large retail chains market to price-sensitive consumers who are not driven to pay higher prices for quality and performance. They also place demands on their suppliers to sell to them at low prices, and they are constantly looking for a cheaper product. Quality always takes second fiddle to low price.

Pep Boys has also been taken over by the wall of orange. I asked the manager why, and he said that they were loosing sales by not carrying the full Fram line. Customers wanted Fram, and if they didn't have it they went elsewhere.

As we all know it's 1% product and 99% marketing.

The dumbing down of the American consumer continues.

If all the customer sees is that repugnant orange box eventually they will believe thats since it happens to be everywhere it must be good stuff.

I want to puke...although I since I have not eaten i cant lol.

One time I was out driving and saw a guy in an old hot rod. For some reason he had no grill on it, and I could see the filter relocation kit in front of the radiator with not 1 but 2 oil filters on it. And yes, they were both Fram PH-8A's. This was before I knew any better, so I didnt slap him silly on principle.

Oh, and I asked a walmart auto employee, and he said they will be keeping Motorcraft (whew!) and Supertech stuff as far as he knows.
