Fram Ultra Alternative

Yep, Fram Titanium = Fram Ultra, except available exclusively at advance auto. So, this would be an excellent option still.
Mobil 1 claims 99+% at 30microns, i'd pass.
Boss pass. PureOne Maybe.
Std. Wix / Napa Gold I believe is 95% at 20micron so that would be prefferred over Wix XP/Napa Platinum which is not as good.
But it's got dem fancy holes. Can looks cooler too 😎

I'm going to do an oil change here soon on my wife's 2017 CR-V 1.5L Turbo. I've used Fram Ultra's for a majority of the changes but looking to try something else for a change and fun. Something that might get similar respect on the forum. I was thinking maybe the PurolatorBOSS or the Fram Titanium, but open to suggestions.

Thanks.
Because of fuel dilution issues on the 1.5L Turbo engine I hope you aren't running extended intervals. I personally would do 5K intervals with OEM Honda filter or Fram Ultra.

Yeah, I do that. I do all the suggestions I found on here to help with the fuel dilution: 91 octane, changing the air filter every 10k miles, XW-30 instead of 20, and shorter intervals. Sometimes I let the interval get away on me but figure I'm doing all the other mitigation efforts that I'll be okay.

How's the 1.5l turbo like w30?

I go back and forth between 20 and 30, last 30 I had was Amsoil 0w-30. Right now I'm running HPL 0w-20. Both were fine and didn't notice much of a difference between the two. I did feel the 20 offered a bit better gas mileage but that could just be the driving habits. Also never ran an oil analysis, I just change it and drive!

Either way, both are fine. I'm getting ready to put in HPL 5W-30 in this next change, so that's exciting stuff! haha Wife think's I'm crazy that I get excited about trying new oils.

Gotcha. I was thinking about moving towards Xw30 after the factory ends but we also have extended warranty and the dealer has one of those "dealer lifetime powertrain warranties!" so I kinda skeered. :c

Fram Ultra or Extra Guard. You can’t go wrong with either.

I have no complaints on WIX quality regardless of the COO although from what I’ve seen that’s subject to change and/ or is in the making.

The next sound choice is OE.

Yeah, I get it. I talked to the dealer about the dilution and they really didn't have answers for me, brushed it off or didn't even know about it. So I just said whatever, I'm going to do what I want to do.

At least you have a 2019, I think they would of figured something out by then. From what I've read, my year was one of the worse offenders so I just do what I can because the dealer isn't going to help.

Yeah, ours hasn't had the OD issues since it has the newer software update and we're not in the colder northern states.

I have not used any purolator filters, have they done anything about the tearing issue? If not a fram ultra, i'd run a toughguard or a Wix.

Im not sure of any alternative that has the flow and efficiency of the Ultra, especially for the price. If you are looking to change it up you could always go OEM. Not nearly as efficient but still a good filter.

Yeah that's what I'm hearing. Might try the Titanium but ultimately I'll stick with the Ultra long term.

Other than Donalson Blue or Fleetguard Stratapore (not normally available in car applications), or Royal Purple (much bigger $), there really is no filter that can measure up to the Ultra. IF you are extending OCIs or multiple OCIs with the same filter.

*Are you suggesting to use the 20K mile rated Fram Ultra for just one 5K mile OCI with the 1.5L turbo ? ... Just curious .

I wish they still made the Bosch Distance Plus filter. That, in my opinion, is the closest to the Fram Ultra in filtration and dirt holding capacity.

That's really good information - I didn't know the difference was 40 vs 20 microns. That makes a big difference!
The difference is that if you have a farm tractor of an engine then it won't matter too much. If you have a nice V8 with hydraulic roller-lifters then you will eventually find out before you hit 100K miles. ;)
