First C&P post here. 2018 Equinox with the 1.5L turbo LYX. Bought the car at 90k, unknown service history. Now has 94k. 4k on the 1st OCI with 0W-20 Valvoline Restore and Protect. Changed the filter at 1k just to make sure it wasn't loaded up and it looked fine. This filter has 3k miles on it. Made in the USA.

Wife does a lot of short trips daily so it falls in the severe duty category.

Fram Ultra XG10575 from Walmart. Not a fan of how tight the louvers are but when light is shines through it they don't look so bad. Only a few specks of carbon.

Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30 and a Carquest Premium 95140 is going in. The Carquest seems well built and was surprisingly hefty. Made in Vietnam.

OP here. Fun fact with the Valvoline Restore and Protect on the 1st OCI since we bought it. Didn't burn any oil for the 1st 1,000 miles but started burning after that. Probably 1.5 quarts over the final 3k of the OCI. We'll see how things go. Will stick with the Valvoline Restore and Protect for the foreseable future.

Next oil change I'll put some BGR EP 109 before I change it for the fun of it. Next spring I may do a piston soak since I'll be due for some spark plugs.

This will be a great experiment to see how BG EPR 109 works. Get yourself 2 five-quart jugs of the cheapest oil you can get.
You can do the experiment with 1 jug, but 2 would be better.

1) Drain your oil and then put in the cheap oil
2) Run it at whatever rpm for whatever minutes and then change the oil.
3) See what the color looks like.
4) Drive the car on the 2nd five-quart jug for so many miles.
5) Then change the oil, take a look, and then go back to Valvoline Restore and Protect.

I mention the fresh oil because you can maybe see if the BG EPR 109 really did anything. Kind of hard to tell if the BG stuff did anything if you added it to dirty oil. Then you can compare what I said in Number 3 and Number 5.

does not that engine call for a 12060 ?
Yes. The 10575 is a bigger version of that filter that fits fine. Same thread and gasket specs but is a bit larger in diameter and a bit longer. Plenty of room in this application so I bought a larger filter just in case a bunch of carbon came out.

The filter is pretty clean so I'm going to be using standard size filter from now on, especially since we are doing 3k OCI's with the severe short-tripping.
