I'm running 6k OCI on 14 BMW X3 with N22 engine. Oil is Mobil 1 0-40. I bought a handful of Fram Endurance filters on clearance and there was an Ultra on clearance for like $8 IIRC so I figured at a 6k OCI it would be fine.

I wasn't inspired by the end cap material on the Ultra. I'm more confident in the solid endcaps on the Endurance. New filter was Endurance with the same Mobil 1 0-40 and OCI will remain 6k. Will post the Endurance to compare in the future.

From the pics I really can't tell what the end cap material is or where an issue might be. I would say based on topic pics this may be an example of the current XG cartridge application being preferable to the previous OG media application. There was more than one anecdote posted of the OG XG cartridges for BWM having end cap separation from media. The mechanics of the issue not 100% clear, perhaps fit, but produced some bad looking post use cartridges.

It caught my attention for sure. I wouldn't use an Ultra on this vehicle in the future. Interested to see how the Endurance performs. Much more robust end caps on the Endurance. It's also interesting to me that the N22 engine is a BMW recommended 8k OCI not a 10K.

Hard to tell from the photos, but it looks like the end caps are solid, like a plastic, with a felt sealing ring around the center tube. True? ... if so, what's wrong with that design?

Correct Zee. Difficult to see from the image but I don't like some of the felt came off...I must have taken the pic of the wrong side. I was rushing to get two OCI's on different vehicles done before thunderstorns came. My fault! The Endurance is solid plastic without the felt. The one I installed for this OCI was a good fit.
