Fram end caps

I do not want to start the endcap war here, but I wonder what changed since the days where the carboard end caps on Fram where so bad and to be avoid at all cost , and now that no one seems to care about them on the TG ? Is it a different ...cardboard .... ?

Just curious to know , thanks

Here's what FRAM says about the end caps:

While BITOG does often have a hive mind, I think that the end caps have proven themselves reliable and that has had an effect on the board as a whole.

The problems is people who think the ends caps are actually cardboard. I guess they figure Fram takes in all of Amazon's used shipping boxes and then uses them to cut their end caps.

The "cardboard" end caps do just as much damage as the metal ones that fall off when the filter is disassembled & the glue has failed! NONE!

Cardboard =/= fiber in this case. I could be wrong, but if I am remembering right, I vaguely recall reading that the endcaps in the TG and OCOD are essentially the same material as the filter pleats, just thicker/reinforced.

Either way, it's NOT cardboard, and it's perfectly serviceable as an endcap. It also binds to the glue FAR BETTER than metal endcaps, since it is porous.

Wix also uses fiber end caps on some filters. As do many other manufacturers.

Here we go again. If Honda asking Honeywell / Fram to make filters that also uses cardboard end caps, recommending it for 2 OCI (15k miles), and is fine, and have no problem after 15 years, I'd just not worry about it.

Teared media is bad (forgot which brand), I'd stay away from that brand instead of cardboard end cap Fram / Honda.
