My Pictures aren't phenomenal took them in Canadian Tire. Also I did not break the seal for on the new XG, I opened it from the bottom.

What started this all, was I just did my change on a 2010 Corolla with the 1.8L 2GR-FE. I found in my stash an OG? Fram XG10358. It was wire backed and looked pretty solid. After reading all the FirstBrands cheapening comments I wanted to see what the current offer looked like.

The "new" XG was wire backed as well, but to me I didn't really like the media look, also that is cardboard from the box on the filter. The Tough Guard had plastic end caps and says made in Arg which I assume means Argentina? The Extra Guard however scared me... It used a soft almost silicone like material to seal the ends and made the whole filter very pliable.

Just sharing I haven't seen this talked about or I am blind.

The order will be Old XG, New XG, TG, and EG.

Pretty sure some of those Toyota's take a cartridge filter that has only glued ends like that last pic of the TG. That design would coinside with those. I know it doesn't look right but it does look okay. I'd take the hard plastic end caps too. Thanks for putting up these pics.

All of them will work just fine. However, my pick would be Supertech ST10358. Very good construction, wire backed media, made in USA and the kicker, only $3. Stock up until it changes because I bet it won't last long.

When a company continually cheapens their product, they lose my business.
I've completely lost confidence in Fram, First Brands, and Champ Labs.

Fwiw, if I owned a cartridge application Toyota that would be my choice too. Still scratching my head how that cartridge is a Super Tech filter at that price point. If it's still on WM shelves, surprised it's lasted this long.

As for topic pics, OG XG looks great. If you can find them, solid I think for Toyota. I'd avoid for BMW though.

I didn't know the Super Tech ST filters are wire backed. Are you sure about that?

I have five SuperTech ST9972 cartridge oil filters. These are all wire-backed, and the part number is crossed out. They were supposed to be the 20,000-mile variant that came with the blue gaskets.

SuperTech discontinued the 20,000-mile variant and just boxed it in the normal 10,000-mile box, so it all depends, since it is a cartridge filter, you can open it and see it before buying.
