Fram CH11665 FAIL

I figured I would get an answer like that.

You have done a good job finding a good and cheap filter for $4 No wonder you are so rich 🤣
When you get a great product and it's inexpensive you appreciate it.
I do anyway.

Wow that is beyond ugly do you have a country of origin by chance? Back in the mid 1990s had two oil filters blow a hole in media one hole was about 3/8" a the 2nd one was about 1/2" both filters were used in the winter time. They were nothing like yours. Good Luck!

This failure is surprising, haven't seen exactly like this one. Wondering if the media where it meets the end cap lacked glue there and the pleats were pushed inward from the oil flow dP. It's going to need more inspection to try and determine why it failed. It the media still attached to the end cap where the media blew inward?

I’m not sure, I’ll look at it in the morning. I was going to dissect it this weekend but was considering contacting Fram and seeing if they would do anything.

Should be able to look up through the gap with a good flashlight and see if there is still some media glued to the plastic end cap or not, without dissecting anything.

Wow, never seen a Fram CH11665 fail like this. I have used this exact filter once when I went to Walmart and they were out of the Supertechs. Came out very good, almost as it went in, with just a small twist. If I remember correctly it was made in Argentina.

Agreeing with others, can't recall a post use Pentastar cartridge like topic. "Fail" is the correct term for it. Seen some waves, some twist, buy not missing media. Looking at pics alone, no idea how that would happen.

The Pentastar cartridge mentioned by @fantastic that I found recently that looks good, the XG Ultra cartridge, made in China. It's a rebranded, relabeled (literally) Royal Purple cartridge, also same as more costly FE cartridge.* It's a wire backed full synthetic media that looks similar to the previous and much liked S.Korea made XG cartridge. Don't know how long First Brands will continue the practice of rebranding the RP to XG cartridge, but worth a look imo.

Agree, that it is an odd appearing failure. Wonder if there was strain from twisting on install that would initiate the tear or like you stated insufficient glue. That just doesn't just "happen" in a tight pleat area given a relatively even pressure gradient.

I had two pleats tear on a premium Honda filter made by FILTECH installed on a Nissan QRQ25DE but the fail point was at a wide pleat gathering and seam area near the end cap. It failed across a Winter OCI. Moisture and cold oil are not friendly to glass paper blend media.

Not defending FB/Trico or Filtech. - Arco

🤣🤣. Thought ā€œblack is where it’s atā€ per quote šŸ˜ŽšŸ˜Ž
I got a dozen of Royal Purple filters the other day in sealed boxes from late 2019......they may be great filters like the OG?

Not on sale or listed as anything but new..from Summit

Tomorrow afternoon I’ll get some up close pictures of where the media meets the end cap. Might take my endoscope and go up inside the tube as well. Going to wait until after I speak with Fram next week before I cut it apart just in case they want me to send it to them.

I’m waiting on the cut and posting the filter from the Century
