I work at a walmart tle. For the past 3 years i have lol. We just started to clearance all of our fram hm filters and replace the hm filters with mobil 1 filters. Just wanted to let everyone know i work at a tle. If anyone possibly wants to see the updated ecore filters from fram or anything else walmart related just ask me and id be glad to give answers. My assiant over tle said walmart is doing away with the hm filters. Atleast mine is in washington.

Almost as much as a Tough Guard with Extra Guard (orange can) internals. We just don't know what type of additives are in the little plastic canister, which is why I think it's a tough sell. I would buy it if they stated the type of additives. Most BITOGer's would too if it had like 100 ppm of moly or boron or whatever additive is in nowadays. Would make the oil stouter, but since we don't know it's all speculation.

Useless? Bin them? Aren't they at least as good as non-HM filters?

is that the ones with that sludge in it? Not interested. The other frams have come a long way but something that has a high mileage gel? No thanks

I remember the WalMart near me put all their Fram HM filters on "Clearance" price a while back.. I say "clearance" because the $5.84 price the dropped them to wasn't all that spectacular. Nonetheless, they did mark them all down, presumably to move them.

IMHO, the HM filter line is unnecessary.

Let me paraphrase that. They aren't any better than a regular good filter. Having the name HM is useless. Just make filters, that's all.

Right now there on clearance for 5 something but the longer they sit the more the price will drop. Normal price is like 6.87 i believe.

My buddy buys them and I change his oil for him. All of them that I have cut open have never dissolved the goo bucket. So they're basically just an orange can. Now that I know they're as expensive as they are I will tell him to quit buying them.

I wouldn't put something with an additive like that on a car I cared about... Just my personal opinion.

I noticed most of the HM filters were gone when I visited WM yesterday.

Here is some actual information on the High Mileage filters, courtesy of Jay at Fram:

We decided to sell it in the Pass car market when many oil companies started pushing HM oils. What the additives does is keep acid balance (PH) in check on engines that have some piston ring blow by. It also contains seal conditioning additives as well. Otherwise it is identical to the standard Extra Guard filter. If you have a clean well maintained engine that is not using oil, you should use the EG or XG filter. If you have an oil burner/leaker, there is a benefit.

Just wanted to add my local WM has Bosch DistancePlus filters all on clearance ($9)... Must not be selling many of those either.

'If' my local WM is also an indicator, then it would seem the HM filter is quietly being removed from the Fram line. At the very least it would seem it is being removed from WM store sale. They are clearance priced here at $5 each, which imo is still too much. Anything more than the price of an equivalent orange can is too much, because other than the gel basket that's what the HM is. In one anecdote posted here not too long ago the gel didn't dissolve over the oci.

Marketing aside, imo the 5k mile HM is a pointless filter. Most any filter and API rated oil is good for 5k miles with no worries about TAN, which is the advertised point of the proprietary additive basket. No reason to pay the HM price premium over the orange can if that is one's filter of choice for ~5k miles.

Here the Mobil One oil filter line has been given the new available shelf space, priced at ~$10. And looking closely at several, they are all still Champ Labs made. Based on their box efficiency appears Super Tech not the only filter using an other than a 20um rated efficiency level.

Also not surprised at all BD+ filter is being closed out at WM. Said previously I would be surprised if they were sold much longer. Though a good filter ime, overpriced for what they are. They have become obsolete with better options like FU available for less.
