Fram CH11665 FAIL

I bet it is a "Made in Brazil" oil filter. I recently sent back to RockAuto a bunch of Lube-Finer P1009 made in Brazil oil filters for sloppy glue and pleat issues. These are the same as the current FRAM CH11665 oil filters. The media on them is almost too stiff and when they fold them for the pleats, have a squared off pleat end to them.

I second the recommendation to find a PG made alternate.

Looks like the media was embedded in the glue but just tore away.

Never been a fan of fram since “orange can of death” days. Used a couple of fram oil filters since w no issues. But will just move on from them now. No issues w supertech filters and the ones I use are not made by fram

A lot of Frams filters aren't made by Fram anymore, but are made by Champ Labs, who also makes the SuperTech filters.

If filter media made it into the engine and UOAs are showing a lot of increased wear, then the engine should be torn down to find if media is blocking any oil passages.

@MuzzleFlash40 - is the engine making any abnormal noises now?

You have actual damages or perceived future damage? What are you looking to get out of FRAM and for what?
Nothing showing damage currently but I do see perceived damages in the future. I’m going to push for a tear down. Filter media had to go somewhere. Sending oil sample off to the local Caterpillar dealer tomorrow but I didn’t see any signs of metal in what was left of the filter.

I don't think the media is 'strong' enough to block an oil passage. I suspect that the media got shredded into tiny pieces. I am looking forward to seeing the oil analysis. @Lostone, can you link here when you get the results back?

Depends on how big of chunks of media might have broke off, and where those chunks ended up in the oiling system.

Be interesting to see where this goes. I foresee them outright dismissing it without evident current damage and if they do acknowledge it, I doubt they would even pay for a teardown and just offer to put in a salvage engine of like mileage unless that cost exceeds current market value of whole vehicle and then they just total it and cut you a check. That is how places like Jiffy Lube and the like handle negligent on their part claims and is many times handled by a third party company on their behalf.

As far as I can tell all of the media or atleast 99% of it was still attached. The engine still sounds smooth as it always has.

Vehicle is a 2021 Grand Cherokee. Currently worth around $25k. Don’t see them totaling it out.
