Just learned today buying a Fram air filter and was told about the Fram Tough Guard was not worth the money and they tend to come apart from glued pieces.Any truth about this.So i decided to get the Fram Extra Guard instead.I wanted more pleats to trap dirt in the Tough Guard but dont these two do the same job in performance or one is better than the other

I do not like the oiled Air Filters.. they can cause problems with the MASS Air Flow sensor.

Believe the Tough Guard isn't oiled, that would be the (now discontinued) Air Hog.
Fram EG is a great air filter. It's all I run and I haven't had any issues.
Thanks guys.Im pretty much happy with Fram Extra Guard and thats all i ever used for years but when you find out the quality on others it [censored] out way to early before intervals.I guess thats what you pay for.If a product has a bad reputation why not pull it off the shelf?Just thinking if anyone had experience with Fram Tough Gaurd thats all.Thanks again

Who was it that told you that Tough Guard filters no good? Just curious. I've heard a lot of things in auto parts stores. Some are good advice. Some, not so much. And many are just downright entertaining. It takes everything I have to not tell some people that they are nothing more than a moron. But, that goes against how I believe we should treat others.

And many are just downright entertaining. It takes everything I have to not tell some people that they are nothing more than a moron. But, that goes against how I believe we should treat others.
I open 2 Fram air filter boxes Extra Guard and Tough Guard for the Mercury Tracer about 2 years ago. From what I can see with my eyes the Tough Guard was better built with very light oiled.
Honda OEM air filter for S2000 is very lightly oiled too.

BHopkins at my auto parts store the employee behind the counter said they come apart where some pieces are glued.Im not sure if any complaints from customers that returned the Fram Tough Guard or not.But my thinking was at that point i dont want any thing sucked into my engine down the road and my truck is my pride and joy.There is a member here name MotorKing that works for Fram,maybe he could chime in and shed some light on whats going on about if there is any defect on FTG.Sure anyone can purchase a auto part and the odd one is returned like anything else.Is that old news from the past or is it just something new i dont know. Fram air filters are good products and not made in china...made in mexico for now

The reason I ask is auto parts employees are notorious for repeating parts store legends. You know, the little tidbit of sales info that your trainer told you, because his trainer told him, and so forth, until you get back to some shady sales rep that trash talked his competition, because his trainer told him . . . . You get my point.
One of my sons has been working behind the parts counter for several years now. He has worked at a couple different Autozone stores, a NAPA, and is now managing his own independent store. He has told me that there are a number of stories like that, which are often repeated by sales associates. Most of the time the associate is well intended, even believing what he or she is repeating. After all they believe they heard it from a reliable source. Ever since then, I am quite skeptical of product opinion I hear in the parts store, unless it is first hand experience.
