Many Fram filters on clearance at Walmart

I've seen this at two different local (CT) stores.

Not sure if this is related to the parent of Fram filing for bankruptcy or not.

I didn't take the time to mine a lot, but I spotted, and bought, two XGA12405 Extra Guard air filters for my Silverado at $5 each.

Recent development?
I think I checked Walmart for clearance oil and filter 2 days ago. Only found Valvoline synthetic hybrid ATF for $5 a qt which I didn't need.

I saw them at two places yesterday (Thursday, Feb 26). I hadn't been in either store since Monday.

Walmart doesn't mess around with their shelf space. If they believe there will be a disruption in supply - and it seems there's no buyers stepping up for Fram - they're looking for a replacement for certain !
This exactly. Walmart runs a VERY tight ship on shelf space. Especially from the primo, eye-level space that many of the Frams recently occupied in the filter aisle.

Given the dearth of options, I'm expecting it will be Mann-and-hummel-mart now. But cheapened even further (because Walmart).

I used to work for a consumer products company. Retailers will even charge for that space. Its call a "slotting allowance". Same for the premium spot near the cash registers for "impulse items". Companies have to pay for each peg or "slot" on the shelf for their chapstick, batteries, eye glass case, beef jerky or gum. Been that way for forty years.

Same here. Stopped in for cat food, so I swung by Automotive. There was nothing on clearance.
FWIW, the ones I saw were not in the Automotive section. The store had moved hundreds of filters to a dedicated clearance aisle on the other side of the store.

I still don't know if this is a general clearance or not, but they were dumping filters for common still-in-production applications (like my Silverado).

Hmmm....I've never seen such an aisle at a Walmart but will look next time.
They seem to be randomly located in stores. I have seen a single column of shelf in the automotive/sporting goods section at the store I go to the most with clearance items from those sections vs in the larger clearance aisle.

I haven't seen a "single column of shelf" either.

I've long assumed the population density of my region, No. New Jersey, offers retailers a myriad of routes through which to move discontinued / old parts. So many auto mechanics are close, I'll never see "clearance oils" again.

ONCE I stumbled upon a slew of gallon jugs of oil long after the industry went to 5 and 5+ quart jugs.

"It's going to be hard to stock filters soon. So let's sell the ones we have for cheaper."

Strange logic there, Walmart.

I guess Walmart is concerned that Fram isn't going to pay for the shelf space, as others alluded to, and Walmart HATES when their vendors don't play ball by their rules.
