I ordered a Fram Ultra Engine Air filter for my wife's CRV. When I went to pick it up, they switched it with a Extra Guard. I returned it. They reason for buying the Ultra is it's rated for 40K miles whereas the Honda's MM usually comes on around 30k. Most all the filters I see say 12k miles or 12 months.

What is the general consensus for a filter that will get me to the 30kish for the MM to go off? I'm looking at ACDelco Gold and Carquest Premium. I have used OE Honda recently but I can't order them from Amazon anymore for some reason. Any others to consider? I don't need it yet but will in the next ~1k miles when I do the next oil change.

I'm running AC Delco Gold from rock auto in my Subarus. good fit. would think similar would work in your crv. Came in a couple of dollars cheaper each when ordering around four at one time.

Are you running them the 30 month / 30K miles that Subaru recommends?

Yes, mostly. May have changed at 25K once or twice. daughter subbie goes more than 30K because she isn't as mindful as I am. We also have some fine filtering dust that sometimes I change early, but overall 30K is fine. We hit 30K before 30mo and save bucks compared to the suburu pricing in town.

Best fit with the oem AF. I want the best fit. .02

Understand your position. I found Motorcraft air filter in my f150 to fit better.
Rough example: subbie dealer wants $79 to change air filter. Daughter does it for under $20, and she isn;t mechanically inclined. Our subbies are 100% sub parts less the cabin and air filters.

I just buy an oem filter at the dealer then install, myself.

Hey the oem filter from a dealer with an eBay shop. You will get the quality part, not a counterfeit, and have the convenience of buying online.

Honda filters are usually slightly oiled. I’d want that as part of the equation. Not sure which others might be…. Dense first time fit?
