Went this morning for warranty work and dealership gave me a loaner all good and dandy. Until I made a turn, I heard something sliding around in the glove box I paid no attention to the noise until it was annoying then I opened up glove box and behold there’s a firearm in a case call the dealership told me to go to the nearest police station went to my nearest police station. They told me it’s not their jurisdiction and to go to the county the dealership is located. I kind of found that weird they did not want to get involved for a firearm. Any thoughts?

Somebody's going to get a good safety brief.

TBH, going to the police station would have been the only option running through my head. But ours is cool, they let me drop off an iphone that somebody left in the train.

I would just go back to the dealership, walk in and tell them someone left a firearm in the glove box. Let them deal with it.
I agree. No way would I go out of my way, not my gun not my car. It’s just a gun and I see it is no different as anything else left in a glove compartment except maybe you don’t want it to be there if you get pulled over by a cop and not know why it’s there.

That’s what I’m going to end up doing none of the police stations wanted to take responsibility which that really blows my mind and they’re trying to get firearms off the streets and nobody seems to care

In NJ the SWAT team might get called it to deal with this. In other states, it's obvious that someone left their pistol in the glove box and they'll retrieve it when you return the car to the dealership.
That I believe I’m originally from New York

just in case they seize that car.
That's a bit of a stretch
That’s what I’m gonna end up doing none of the police department seemed to care which blows my mind
It's not as big of a deal as you seem to think it is. Unless it was used in a crime and the police know this, it's just a piece of property to them. If you had found a cordless drill in the trunk, they'd act the same way.

That is odd. Most departments would have just ran the serial number to see if it came back stolen.

I'm beside myself with this nonsense. I'm not a big formal discipline boss when many things can be addressed on a personal level. If one of my members refused that gun, that would be a formal rip and recommendation for command discipline above the basic, you screwed up, and you're accountable.

If the cops won't take it, what the heXX are YOU supposed to do with it? Not to mention in likely all 50 states (definitely in NY), despite the circumstances, you Sir, are in possession of a handgun. That could lead to you being arrested for that possession. I can't speak to your area in GA. I created a form (ya, more red tape) for my dept. Simple, you walk in and surrender the weapon. Sign if you want it destroyed or if you'd like us to keep it and in a year, if unclaimed, it becomes your property.

Additionally, that gun should have had a G-Gun report run through E-Justice to make sure it wasn't stolen. Not required but it should also be sent to ballistics for analysis. Sounds like too much, but I've personally been a part of a gun coming back with multiple bodies on it. Certain things have the potential to be so serious you dot the "i" and cross the "t."

I’m reading these posts in here, and I understand to some people in some states guns are rare and unique or even looked at as a big bad thing.

In the land of the free, it’s just a gun, no big deal.
However, I would be prudent and bring the car back to the dealer and tell him to get their gun out of the glove compartment. Since I already commented in post #5, I won’t say anymore.😜
Except to say it’s just a gun!
It even has a nice holster!

States vary in wild ways. In NJ, possession of hollow point ammunition outside your home or at the range or on the way to the range or gun store will get you certain jail time. I’d bet that self defense gun is loaded with hollows. In NJ, I’d park it in the street, lock it, and go to the police station and give them the keys and walk away. Tell the dealer where the car is and who has the keys.

That's wild to me. So, only the bad guys have guns when something goes down, the law abiding citizens become cannon fodder.
