Deciding what ATF to put in my truck has become quite a chore. I've kicked around the thought of 10 or more brands. The reason I'm asking about this brand is, I have to be honest, I've been quite impressed with the quality of the Shell family of motor oils, so I am giving this at least a look to see what others think. My truck ('90 F150 - E4OD trans) requires Mercon ATF, so either the FS D/M or FS Multi-Vehicle variety should work. I was originally thinking about going with a full syn ATF, but Shell ATFs are more than likely top quality products even though they are more than likely conventional or a blend depending on the version. Right now, I'm rolling with SuperTech D/M ATF and Seafoam Transtune. I want to flush that out and go with 100% ATF since the aforementioned items have served their respective purposes.

To add to this, if you've used Pennzoil ATF, which is in the Shell family as well, tell me about your experiences with that.

What are your thoughts?

The Shell ATF is made with a Group II base stock, the Pennzoil ATF is made with a Group II+ base stock. Both brands in the Multi-Vehicle category is a Group II/III mix. Both use Infineum and Afton additives and both are extremely good products.

I have not used the Shell brand ATF, but have used Pennzoil ATF's for over 25 years.

Hope this helps.

Pennzoil MerconV and multi-vehicle ATF that I've used were excellent. I'd expect all the SOPUS AT products to be just as good.

I'd always like to upgrade when possible. Give the multivehicle ATF a run.

I'm going to change the FF ATF in my friends 2005 LaSabre within the next 2 weeks. The car has approx. 42 or 43K on the factory fill. Pepboys carries both Pennzoil Multi-Vehicle and Pennzoil (formerly) Dex III for $4.49 a quart.
Which is a better ATF?
