I learn more and more every day here and i just recently learned that the oil i was using in my Ford 5.4 didnt meet the Ford spec's! I allso discovered that many of the conventional oils in the 5w20 and 5w30 dont list the Ford WSS-M2C153-H or the more current spec but most of the synthetic blends and full synthetic oils do. Why is this? None of the high milage oils including the Maxlife Syn blend list the Ford specs either. I spent nearly and hour at Walmart reading all the oils on the shelf and decided on Pennzoil platinum 5w20 based on the many good reports on this forum. What would be the problem in using an oil that does not meet Ford specs? I know, too many questions but i would like to know more about this.

Probably not a thing if you are out of the warranty period. If the oil you choose says SM/GF4 the difference will be negligible.JMO. Others may chime in with different ideas.

No i didnt miss it, just thought that a Full Synthetic might be worth a try and it gets good reports here. The MC is priced right though and i have used it but i did notice that the start up noises seemed to be louder on the MC 5w20, thats when i went to a dino high milage 5w30 oil and later discovered the Ford spec issue. Just a note, not to be giving prais to PP but I have noticed that my start up noises are all but gone now. So far Im happy as can be with the Pennzoil Platinum 5w20.

Yes all the synthetics met the Ford specs and it was a toss up between PP and M1 and I decided on the PP, Why? I dont know other than it is well known here to be as good or better than M1. It seems that as far as syn oil, that is available at retail store's, M1 and PP are the best.
Im still interested on this whole spec thing if any one knows.

The cheapest oil on the shelves that meets spec is Ford Motorcraft synthetic blend.
