Very interesting. Also glad to see Ford planning on mass-implementing their dual-clutches and GDIs.

Good news for some REAL boosts in fuel economy, as opposed to the current marketing-fest.

From page 5 slide. Now they have my attention.

6-speed dry dual-clutch
automatic transmission

7% -9% fuel economy
improvement vs. traditional 4-speed auto

Eliminates the need for hydraulic controls

10k mile OCI? Interesting.

I'll be curious to see if they extend out the time duration from 6 months to perhaps 1 year? My GM Dmax has the "OLM or one year" warranty statement. Six month limits are simply a waste of good oil for many folks; all the UOA evidence I've seen points towards there being no difference between 6 months and 1 year. Mileage and severity are the key, not chronology.

Still - some people here will insist on the ol' "3 month / 3k miles" because it's "cheap insurance" ...

Ford seems to really have their act together.

Well, if one wishes to argue "cheap insurance," one might be able to make the case for the 3,000 mi OCI, if the engine is a sludger, driven hard, whatever. It's a stretch, but there might be some reasons for it. The three month thing never passed the smell test.

When I had my 1990 Town Car, and I worked and shopped within a couple blocks of my home, the car would usually sit for six weeks at a time. So, after having driven it twice (for perhaps 50 miles each time, since it was all highway trips, but still severe service because of our weather) I should change the oil that only had 100 miles on it? Right.

I didn't even bother with a winter/summer switch. I just used 5w-30 all year round and that was that. And, no, I sure as heck didn't use synthetic.

Yes, the 3000 OCI crowd will have be having fits! They may have to stretch it out to 3200 Miles.

10,000 mile OCI; almoust 1/2 what they are doing in Europe now.

Note page 3 "Increased unibody applications" I did a thread a while back "is the truck based SUV dead" Looks like it is...

I drive Fords and have been doing 10K OCIs for 32 years. Glad to see they have been noticing my post.

Hahaha!.....good one tig .

Got to admit I've been a Ford owner most of the time and having been a Ford mechanic some years back may have something to do with that . Of all the US auto makers Ford has gone through some bad times and they always seem to step it up when need be . Sure they have made some stinkers but what auto maker hasn't ?

Deliver consistent engine oil quality conformance to assure adequate oil life –

Ford will have 10,000 mile oil change intervals for 2011MY
Develop lubricants for new fuel efficient powertrain technologies to enable:

•Higher temperatures and higher load duty cycles
•Lower ash levels -- protect against engine pre-ignition
•Faster warm-up
•Flatter viscosity index --same viscosity over wider temperature range
• Work toward global engine oil specifications
• Develop new low-viscosity gear oils to improve transmission efficiency
• Research next generation friction reduction ideas (Engine and Transmission)

Doesn't seem like a big whoop . There have been oils on the market for at least 35 years that would do the interval. It is a no new type of news .

Sounds like Porsche claims with their drive lines. Though I think Ford of the [Big3] is by far the best.

It's very new as this will be a first for Ford. I've said for some time now I believe most engine builders will require Synt oil for their engine within 10 years. Seems this may come to pass sooner than later.
