Well, if one wishes to argue "cheap insurance," one
might be able to make the case for the 3,000 mi OCI, if the engine is a sludger, driven hard, whatever. It's a stretch, but there might be some reasons for it. The three month thing never passed the smell test.
When I had my 1990 Town Car, and I worked and shopped within a couple blocks of my home, the car would usually sit for six weeks at a time. So, after having driven it twice (for perhaps 50 miles each time, since it was all highway trips, but still severe service because of our weather) I should change the oil that only had 100 miles on it? Right.
I didn't even bother with a winter/summer switch. I just used 5w-30 all year round and that was that. And, no, I sure as heck didn't use synthetic.
