Ford F-150 Lightning Owner Explains Why He Sold It After 6 Months

Here is a article from AAA stating when hauling at or near max allowable load, the lighting's range is 30 percent lower than what the EPA is reporting. Supplementing, AAA also states this truck will not be primarily used for hauling for most of its time in operation, so the reduced range is a moot point for most Lightning owners.

I would reword that slightly.

The EPA doesnt give the truck a laden range rating.

The article states that the laden range is 30% lower than the EPA's unladen range rating.

210 miles of range is more than enough for a large % of home depot runs with a full bed.

Most people who buy these things don't use the brain they were born with. If you want a truck to do "truck stuff" it has to have a heavy full frame, that alone makes the vehicle considerably heavier, now toss a battery in that is big enough to give it more range than getting past the end of the street and the weight is way up.
Trucks are not good for EV use and CA mandating EV class 8 trucks is beyond insanity, the clown that came up with that idea needs a few rounds of electro shock therapy.
Lets not forget those same clowns want to do away with gas stoves, gas hot water heaters, and gas and oil heat. LOL

They get their way, most will be looking for a good cave to live in & some wood to burn for heat. I honestly can't figure out what their insane endgame is... (I know, political) Unless it's build & fire up a HUGE number of nukes & try really hard to solve the fusion question.

I wonder what really is the driving force that makes people want to buy an Ev.

With some planning and a relatively aerodynamic load this guy went from Ontario to Colorado towing a 27' RV trailer behind a Model S long range. https://www.canamrv.ca/blog/post/tesla-towing-london-to-colorado-and-back/
No brakes needed down the mountain passes and better overall efficiency than on the flats likely because of the thinner air.
A model S 7 seater with a utility trailer seems like its could do a lot of pickup stuff, if you've got a reasonable charging network in your area?

I hear that all the time from guys that have never driven them.

Forget about all the green pushing nonsense and drive a fast one.

Most people have never driven a car as fast a model 3 or y performance.
It supercar quick from just a decade ago.

The only green I care about is in my and my employees pockets. These things are a blast.

I will say a front trunk is very handy. I had one in my Chevy Corvair and my VW 411/412. Made grocery shopping easier.

Our Model 3 is a freaking blast to drive. I will buy the Model 3 Performance Highland when it comes out. Nothing else interests me. The current one is an 11 second car. It's so much fun to pick on all the exotics in town! Old skool is cool, but these cars flat out fly!

Then there is the tech. There is nothing else out there like a Tesla. I bought the car for my wife; she was in charge of WW Computer Operations at a $10B Silicon Balley company; well versed in computer tech. Due to its software based design, the car keeps getting better with OTA updates. Dog mode, smart summon, on and on. There is no key, no button start. Get in the car and go. The car is a level above.

Some people do not care for a high tech vehicle. The solution is, don't buy one. Personally I do not wanna go back. Plus, I hate buying gas. Costs too much and you are forced to go somewhere to actually buy it!

And did I mention it's fast?

I really REALLY hate stopping for gas. “It’s just a few minutes though!” Doesn’t matter, it ranks one higher than jumping into a running woodchipper on my list of things I want to do…. Even then the woodchipper seems preferable sometimes.

Refueling is part of life with all motor-vehicles and no big deal. While the fuel pumps I enter the rest of the info into the fuelly app and then get the gallons about then. So I'm occupied while it pumps. And with an EV a mandatory refueling stop is going to be a bigger and lengthier affair than grabbing a few gallons of gas.

ICE refueling is a pain and expensive.

Except you almost never stop to charge. I don't do any of that fuelly crap to be honest with you. I don't track my fuel economy other than doing the quick math to see how close it was to the car's calculation. "Refueling is part of life with all motor-vehicles". Yes, yes it is and now it's a downside for those that aren't regularly driving 200+ miles a day which is almost everyone with a driver's license.

This thread has reached epic levels of stupid and I can't believe it hasn't been locked at this point. We've had our car 6 months now and have used public charging 3 times for a total charge time of 45 minutes. The "I could never drive an EV" crowd have a really weird aversion to it because they don't understand how it actually works.

It was a very big deal in 1974 if you were around......

I fill my car the last day of the month to maximize the Kroger fuel discount, usually always $1 per gallon. If I had an EV, presuming it was smart so I could program it as I wish, I'd plug it in every day and have it recharge back to 80% overnight. I'll have a big capital gains tax this year and may buy an EV while the $7500 credit would apply. We'll see.
