So my wifes old Edge will be given to my mom to use. The Edge takes 5w30. I dont know what OCI she's used in the past for her other car but as we know EcoBoost engines dilute the oil with fuel.

What oil could be ran that still in spec ( for warranty purpose, still has ford ext. warranty ) that she can run longer if she doenst catch the mileage in time? She might go 6500 or 7500 miles before she lets me know its due ( I plan on changing it for her ).

I was going to run the FL910s OEM filter but those Car Quest Premium filters are looking nice...

For the most part fuel dilution is adding a low viscosity fluid to one with a higher viscosity. No oil will resist that better than any other. The only way to keep a grade in spec with significant fuel dilution is to use a higher grade.

I’d mention that grade is not a condition of warranty but I think you already know that.

Valvoline EP or EPHM. Both carry the Ford spec, are about the thickest 5w30 you will find with that spec and they are loaded with additives to boot.

I change at 5k mostly due to ease of remembering and wanting to get the fuel out, but I would not be worried about the oil at 7k.

Another great choice would be QSUP (the 20k stuff at Walmart). Also on the thick side and has the spec. What I would be running if I couldn’t get the Valvoline.

Any of the “extended” performance or protection labeled formulas from any of the big manufacturers would suffice.

If shopping at Walmart, you have 3 EP options and 2 non EP options: Valvoline EP, Castrol Edge EP, Mobil 1 EP, QSUD, and PUP.

Any of these oils would suffice IMO. Castrol has the most strongest approvals with the MB 229.71.

If I remember right, someone here on BITOG has an F-150 Ecoboost that has had UOA done on Castrol Edge EP. It showed that it handled fuel dilution very well and maintained exceptional wear numbers.

Our youngest son has a 2013 Escape with a 2.0 Ecobust, fuel dilution has always been an issue based upon my nose and not a UOA. Try to keep the OCI at 4-5K miles max. He moved out to Colorado 2 years ago and prior to the trip I put in 5W-30 M1 EP in not knowing when it would get changed again. Trip out there was about 1800 miles and over the next 15 months he put another 2K miles. Told him to get get it changed at a quicklube in Basalt. Probably should have had it done sooner.

This is kinda what Im thinking and smell as well. It does smell of fuel which is crazy...

Good to 10k with more shear stability. If I was not going to run a euro M1 I’d be using Truck & SUV.
Let me ask you this, how is that more shear stable when the M1 EP is their best offering, no? At least thats what I always thought. I would think the EP would be the most shear stable since its touted as going 20k.
