First new car. Picked it up w/ 11 miles on it. Love it. At one year and ready to do first oil change. Oil per manual should meet Ford WSS-M2C962-A1.

I plan to use Motorcraft 0W-20 and FL910S filter. Takes 6 qts. 5+1 containers.

For future plans, I was thinking about Havoline ProDS Lifelong Full Synthetic Motor Oil SAE 0W-20 (spec sheet). It comes in 6 qt jugs so makes it really, really easy.

Any downsides? Oil will be changed yearly and most likely have <5000 miles on it.

The 2.5 Duratec is super easy on oil, almost anything will work well. Motorcraft is fine oil, as is Havoline ProDS, either will serve you well.
Thanks, the 6 qt jug just makes it really easy. I'll plan on that next.

I think that's just another one of Ford's specs that's just an ILSAC rebrand, on the 2.5 Duratec there's really no special considerations for oil choice, it's an old proven MPFI design with a timing chain, any oil that's appropriate for your climate will work in it.

I have a 22 Maverick Hybrid I have been using Mobil 0-20 in mine. When changing I only put in 5.6 quarts this brings the oil level to the top of the cross hashed area on the dip stick. I believe 6 full quarts may be a bit much but most likely will not cause harm. Your plan 1 year or 5,000 miles is a very good idea that is my plan also.

6 quarts is just about right, the top of the crosshatch I believe is around half a quart below the max, while the stamped hole at the top is the max fill line.

Approx half a quart over will most def not cause any harm especially on an approx 6 qt sump. If it could engines with fuel dilution would be doomed.

Had two Duratec 2.5 (non-hybrid) that ran great on nothing but quick lube synthetic blend and whatever cheapo filters… your plan will do just fine.

Only potential “downside” might be spending more on Motorcraft oil when you could save money by going straight to the ProDS. But hopefully a few bucks a year isn’t enough to break your budget.

if someone is buying a new vehicle a few bucks should not affect their budget.

The bottom line here:

You are fortunate to own a practically bulletproof engine. You really have to do something stupid to kill it prematurely.

I own a ‘22 Hybrid Maverick. Using mostly Mobil 1 0W20EP. However, I currently am running Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W20 in her. I noticed it a bit smoother and quieter with the Pennzoil. I don’t know if that means anything. It’s a great pickup, as you are finding out, that can routinely give you 40-48 mpg in traffic (or more if you try).

I previously owned a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid with the same 2.5L engine. Engine was still running strong at 210,000 miles running the same Mobil 1 0W20 EP.

Some Ford Escape NYC cabs with the same engine were retired with 400,000 - 600,000 miles on it.

Drive it and enjoy.

I did a lot of research before purchasing, and that was one big reason I took the plunge. A little disappointed in the 4k AWD hybrid for 2025 but like the Gen 1 look better. It's the rest of the truck I think will give it issues, especially cosmetic, in the future with the really scratch prone interior.

The $11/year isn't going to kill me.

I've read the Motorcraft filters are pretty good so will stick with that, can get them for around $7 locally.

Those yellow taxi NYC Ford Escapes ran a half million miles and I'd be surprised if many got any oils above the minimum spec. Anybody know how the current engine hardware in the Maverick compares to those of 15 yrs ago?

Last OCI I put in a full 6 Qt and after a drive and overnight sit it was right at the Max Fill hole on the other side. Much easier than dealing with .3 Qt here and there. Still right there 7 months later.

About 6 months ago I was able to get the Motorcraft 0W-20 Full Syn on Amazon for $31.13 (5qt) on a subscribe and save. Also a decent $8 deal on qts. That price is now up 25%. Glad I bought two changes worth.

Downsides? Yes. I wouldn't use either MC 0-20 or the MC 910s filter. See my post on my latest OC in my 2017 Fusion I posted today especially about the filter.
