Ford 5.4/4.6 820S Filter Removal

You guys must all have had 4x4s. It's super easy on my 2wd Navigator, you don't even have to lift the vehicle, although with the power running boards it's better to slide under it from the front. I took the filter off by hand the last time, it took some effort, but it came off without a tool.

If I have to use a tool, I have a Lisle tool that fits over the end of the filter and you put a 3/8ths extension on it. It squeezes as you loosen so it does a really good job of getting off really stuck filters.
I bought one of these at WM just recently. My son tried it on his 5.4 3V oil filter and threw it about 150'. Took me forever to find it! I told him he was too spoiled because at the dealership it's a pit that the vehicles drive over. You just stand under the vehicle and do your thang.

I used to just be able to reach it from underneath in my home garage. But you had to get your arm bent just right to do it. Another way though is if you remove the wheel/tire you get get closer and get at it from the side and get a strap on it if need be. Just going off memory. It’s been a while.

He could have hit a cousin throwing like that.

If i can't get it loose by hand it was on way too tight. I'm not super strong.

My ford 4.0 specs the 820s, although i have never used the motorcraft part.
