Flu season this year

I travel a lot for work - flying internationally. At first without getting the flu shot for a couple of years I would get sick very often, almost after every flight. Now I get the flu shot for the last 2 years and it has made a big difference. I haven't gotten sick after travel at all since the flu shot.

I had cancer 15 years ago, therefore because of immune system issues I get a flu shot every year. Have yet to get the flu since. Same goes for my wife.

I'm not a fan of pumping my body with a "vaccine" that contains mercury for an illness that will come and go when the stats on the shot are only have %6 effectiveness rate. a glimpse of the contents of a flu-shot....

Formaldehyde: known carcinogen
Triton X100: a strong detergent
Sucrose: table sugar
Resin: known to cause allergic reactions
Gentamycin: an antibiotic
Thimerosal: mercury is still in multidose flu shot vials

Egg proteins: including avian contaminant viruses
Gelatin: can cause allergic reactions and anaphylaxis are usually associated with sensitivity to egg or gelatin
Polysorbate 80 (Tween80™): can cause severe allergic reactions

Glad no one in my family comes into contact with anyone in your wife's medical facility.

If you have a beneficial reason to take the shot so be it, that's your prerogative and I respect that. But don't judge me.
We live healthy life styles and DO NOT put unneeded chemicals into our body's. My step son has juvenile diabetes and we still do not subject him to a flu shot, nor do we subject our children to other [censored] vaccines such as Hepatitis vaccines, there is simply no need for it in our lives. We get sick and we get over it organically if possible and move on, just like the human body is suppose to and has for a thousand years !

I'm healthy and have a good immune system. I get the flu vaccine so I don't inadvertently pass the virus on to someone who isn't so lucky.

I'm also incredibly grateful to live in a time and place where vaccines are so widely available.

Not judging you at all, do as you wish, I'm just glad me nor none of mine come in contact when you or yours do get sick. Your lack of concern for the rest of us is what I'm referring to.

We had the same thing pop up at a few hospitals and schools here. Nurses were fired, and children were not allowed to go to school till the situation was corrected with a Dr.s note. Thank God we have a Health Department.

I know all about that attitude from way back in the 50's when I came down with polio. However I am somewhat lucky.

I presume you would also turn down a vaccine for most cancers if it became available?

That's great, your a fan of big brother forcing drugs and goods upon American people, and taking there jobs when they don't comply ! BUT I guess that's what big brother wants, a few more people dependent on them after they loose there jobs.

A true product of our current country filled with sheeples quote "thank god for (insert gov. agency here)!"

GEE, thanks for your service !

I guess we fought for two different reasons......

I have nothing more to say on the subject, people NEVER cease to amaze me !

It's an apples to oranges comparison.

Cancer is typically far more deadly than the flu.

It's unlikely I'll die from the flu.

I've survived cancer.

I don't recall ever saying, I survived the flu.

There is no one-size fits all solution.

Healthy folks generally don't need the vaccine. Those with weak or compromised immune systems may benefit.

It really doesn't impact your health if I do or don't get the flu shot. If I get it, I can still carry the flu virus and pass it along without suffering symptoms.

So I am no more, nor less a danger regardless how I decide on the flu shot issue.

What it comes down to is are those who come in contact with a particular strain of flu virus able to fight off the virus?

The status of my flu shot choice doesn't play into that equation.

I'm totally in favor in whatever department that helps protect me from others that have no concern for the rest of the population. Whether it be the local police enforcing traffic laws to make the highways safer or the Health Department protecting the rest of us that have no concern for the rest of the population. Or for that matter the U.S. Military protecting the population from oppression from other countries.

Your lack of concern for the rest of us is absolutely AMAZING.

Not sure about you, but I served to protect the United States. Do not question my service, had enough of that back in the 60's getting spit at and called foul names.

By the way, this 70 year old man is still serving, every time we have a Vet. pass away & the family wishes a Military Service. It now only takes 2 prescription pain pills to accomplish doing the complete service.

Are you?

My wife works in hospital(20yrs now) with direct patient contact. Although she gowns up if person is known to have anything.

She skips it every year unless they catch up with her. Not sure if mandatory or strongly recommended.

She does feel its not a bad step for weaker immune folks in society. I believe she did it once and got quite sick, hence her issue.

Our kids never get it. She feels like its full of bad junk. I go along with her as mama is typically right and far more medical than I am.

Report on the news a few minutes ago, 40,000 folks die yearly in the U.S. from the flu. Cost to our economy? 200 million.

Not really insignificant is it.

Sure, but who is dying?

There are some folks who are simply going to die, regardless what we do.

Death is inevitable.

Besides, I wonder how many of the 40K who die got the flu shot?

If it's your time to go, you are going. Bodies wear out. Life loses it's quality and comes to an end for us all.

According to the Dr. being interviewed it's across the board with not one age group being selected. But I'm sure you will question the Dr's finding.

And there other options to getting the shot.

Its pretty hard to get sick from dead virus.

I would like to see the numbers. So far, there is no finding, just an anecdote shared in an internet forum.

That you will have to find for yourself as I have no idea how to find what I was watching on FOX News, sorry, buts that the way it is.

So I will treat it as merely your opinion until backed up with real data.

You made the assertion. It's your job to back it up. If you want me to believe it, then do the work to support your position.

Take it however you wish, makes no difference to me whatsoever.

But as I stated I have no idea how to post what I heard on TV, just the way it is, like it or not.

Ya know there are times one has to take someone's word for something.

You may be factually correct. But what of it?

Let's assume you are, in the US 40k/year die of the flu.

How many die every year?

According to the CDC, about 2.5 million US deaths in 2010.

So those dying from the flu, according to your number, don't make up even 2% of that figure.

It's not worth worrying about. There are far bigger killers out there.

Heart disease takes 1 out of every 4 who die or about 600K/year.

http://www.cdc.gov/heartdisease/facts.htm

So if you want to get fired up about something, I suggest tackling heart disease before you blow a gasket over such a small factor such as the flu.
