Recovered this one from the trash to open up and see the glue situation. Ignore the media, since I mangled it up pretty good with a hack saw. The glue scrapes off very easily.

Probably wishful thinking, but are the mid 2024 - current Motorcraft's still sloppy with the glue? I noticed mine and the Youtube videos you posted were both 2023 manufacture dates.
Don't know unless you can find a pretty recent filter cut open and inspection YT video. Or go buy some new off the shelf and check them out for sloppy glue that comes off too easily. I'd bet they are still the same glue issue now if I had to bet one way or the other. I've given up on Motorcraft filters, and jumped over to MicroGard Select and Carquest Premium filters.
 
The glue seen didn’t go anywhere or wouldn’t see it. Another member has posted perfect Purolator and Bosch made by Purolator filters without excess glue. It is worrisome though.
I would say this applies to all oil filters that glue caps on the media. You can’t know if some came off. Sometimes louvers or holes inside are covered with glue at the cap ends.
Toyota and that style of cartridge filter seem to be the only sure bet about glue. Glueing caps on at a factory is sort of a primitive process.

Yeah the glue you see didn't go anywhere - obviously, but there certainly could have been glue that came off that you don't see after it's cut open. Some would be caught in the media, and some could potentially go through the bypass valve. It's been reported that the glue has been found in the drain pan after an oil change, so it would have to go through the bypass valve to make it there. It's the latter part that says don't buy Motorcraft filters anymore. Plus, it's possible any glue that's exposed to the clean side of the center tube could come loose. Overall, it's a messed up filter.

Still amazes me that folks expect perfection on a commodity product for $6-$15 that requires hand labor at $15-25 hr. Maybe BITOG should start a "Designer" oil filter company to go with the "Designer" oils promoted here, to assure perfection. Mmmm :unsure:

Would love to see a transparent can so we can look for glue floaters. There's my contribution. A little light humor to freshen the thread.

Looks don’t bother me but when it ends up in the oil pan I expect more.

There's no excuse for bad workmanship like sloppy glue application, and also for inferior materials like glue that doesn't adhere well. Filters in the past haven't had crap glue/potting material like these Motorcrafts now have.

Not perfection, but an oil filter that actually creates debris that can get sucked into your engine is not acceptable. The entire point of an oil filter is to filter debris.
 
I've used several of that same Motorcraft filter on my Ford Edge. The last one began leaking from the gasket about 1K miles after an OC. Was installed properly, no double gasketing. I've switched to Bosch or Wix now.

Show me any ST filters or Donaldson that has that much sloppy glue. Even FRAM titanium, OG ultras never had this issue

Maybe the robots are doing the gluing now. Would it require a less viscous liquid glue? They do RTV gaskets on assembly lines.
