First the recalls and then come the lawyers

"Severe emotional distress" indeed.

How can they prove all those drivers suffered such losses?
Why not sue the media - they generated most of the fuss.

Does the word "Shark" resonate with some familiarity? I can see damages for those actually injured...but the rest of the "emotional" claims are ridiculous.

Unfortunately since the USA doesn't "manufacture" many things anymore maybe all these "jobs" being created are of the legal profession.....'

There need to be a LOT LESS lawyers in this country!

I too think that there needs to be a severe curb on law suits in this country..it is so out of hand it is crippling the country and the economy...

At least the car companies PRODUCE SOMETHING. Lawyers only redistribute wealth (after taking a sizeable chunk for themselves.)

We would be far better off if Congress was full of doctors, teachers, business owners, engineers, farmers etc...as the founding fathers envisioned rather than lawyers.

Where do wall street people fall on that scale? What do they produce? Do you think moving the money around produces value? Otherwise, how do you justify billions of dollars in compensation?

For all the bashing that attorneys take, some of it very deserved. When you need one, a good one is a very valuable asset in this crazy world.

The John Edwards of the world that thrive and feed off of class action and product litigation are a scurge IMO. But a good quality attorney is worth his/her weight in gold when the time comes you need one.

For the record, I am NOT an attorney....lol....but somebody has to defend them at least a little....lol.

Wall Street is the worst, they profit from betting for and AGAINST success. Produce nothing and hold themselves up as "experts" while talking stuff up and down. Lining their own pockets all the while.

A BIG +1

Just like parasites and viruses, they offer absolutely nothing to the society as a whole, yet are the biggest drain on it.

Only trouble was...some of the founding fathers were lawyers too.

None of them were "just" lawyers......They were all pretty much the hyphenated types.

Plus remember, back in the founding fathers days all one had to do to be a lawyer. Was to understand the law and be able to pass the bar exam or it's equivalent. You didn't need to attend law school or college at all iirc. A lot of people that studied the law took the bar and passed and were lawyers that never exercised that right or practiced before the bar.

And that would have to do with the Toyota class action lawsuit because...?????

When you lie to people, like Toyota has here, denying they have a problem what do you expect?

Toyota has a sleazy history of secret recalls and I bet they were attempting to pull another sleazy secret recall until the NHTSA pulled the plug and stopped their sales.

You cant, design, test and build a solution inside of 5 days, they have known this problem existed, and were working on solutions I am sure for some time and testing varios designs.

If anything, people will come away from this that Toyota doesnt care about safety or quality, profits come first. THey would have continued to sell the cars with the existing design and hoped the firestorm would go away and then secretly replace floor mats, gas pedals and what not under the elite medias eyes.
