Whatever brand that was on the shelf in the automotive aisle at the Skaggs Drug Store my dad worked at. It would have been sometime in 1972 (after I turned 15) and was for a 1967 Ford Galaxy 500 with the 390 engine. As far as oil, it was most likely Pennzoil 10w40 because it was on sale for a ridiculously low price somewhere between $0.20 - $0.40 per quart. The special was 5 quarts for $1.00 or $2.00.
A few years later (1974) I found myself working for the local Pennzoil Distributor unloading box cars, semi-trucks, and hauling cases containing 24 quart cans and 55 gallon drums of oil around the warehouse. We also had lots of Pennzoil branded oil filters so I began to purchase those to use for oil changes on my folks cars. If I recall correctly, I was charged around $0.75 per filter. Also, the employee cost for a case of Pennzoil (remember 24 quart cans) was something like $8 or $9.
Later on I learned I could purchase auto parts (spark plugs, fan belts, brake shoes, etc.) from various distributors and wholesalers for what seemed like next to nothing compared to retail at the local auto part stores. Life seemed so grand!
