1988 Dodge Shadow Turbo. I had it for 2.5 years. A coolant line failed on it while on a small road trip. The backwoods shop that I coasted to off the highway cracked the turbo while trying to take it off for some reason. It just needed coolant and new tubes. Ugh! Capped the turbo off and got rid of it.

Oil used was whatever the quickilube place in my smaller town used. No idea what it was but i'd guess 10w30 conventional.

yup, Lou Oglialora (sp?? - Oglialora's Texaco, Hyattsville Md.) was a good guy and I learned a lot from him. We called him Aunt Lou.

The '54 was the beginning of several more....1959 and 1961.

First for me was a '75 Ford Maverick sedan with the 250 c.i. six-cylinder engine, A/C and power steering (but not power brakes for some reason), a metallic green exterior and a matching cloth/vinyl interior. My then-fiancee bought it new in early '76 -- sticker was about $4000, I think -- and I got my license with it.

I'd probably think it was tinny and cheap-feeling today (though the styling I still like -- it resembled a 4-door Mustang). But at the time, I loved it. It represented freedom from waiting for buses and from cadging rides from friends. And I learned about oil changes, coolant changes, filters, keeping the tires inflated, everything.

She kept it when we divorced -- I'd bought my second car, a used Mercury, by then.

1990 cavalier two door coupe, got it with 39k on the odo. horse humped the hood, got it replaced with a grey one. horse humped that one too so just gave up and ran around with a dented hood for the rest of its journey. traded it in with 86k on the odo for brand spanking new 1997 chrysler cirrus lx 4 cylinder. put about 83k on that before i blew the head gasket. it turned heads though, i still think that body style is sharp.

My parents would not let me get my drivers license until I turnded 17---said 16 was too immature yet---couldnt argue soo just dealt with it. Came home from work one morning from workin on the farm for a summer job. This was in late May--my birthday is on 6/11. My Dad told me too look outback. There sat a 73Grand Prix SJ--400 4Barrel with the 400Turbo Transmission. Car had orginal 72thousand miles on it with little rust around back corner panel which my Dad got fixed. Here he worked with a guy that had it & it just sat. Between paying for insurance & gas for the beast---I was always broke it seemed but sure as [censored] did have fun. Soo many great memories with that ride!! Car had a steady diet of Exxon Superflow 10-30 with a Purolator Air & Oil Filters.

Started in '75 with a 1964 Dodge Dart slant six and push button automatic (grandfather's old car). That lasted me a few months until I blew out the tranny seal in an unsuccessful attempt at a jungle patch (got what I deserved).

Next was a 1971 Ford custom (bottom of the line full sized) with a 302 (5.0) V8 that I beat on for a little over a year (parent's old car).

Then the next car was a 1963 Chevy Biscayne six with a three speed column which was a blast (other grandfather's old car).

Finally I bought a brand new 1977 F100 six with a three speed on the column.

That was followed by a 1984 F150 six 4 on the floor, a 1995 F150 six 5 on the floor, then my current ride I picked up last December, a 2001 Ranger 4 banger with 5 on the floor.

I bought a 1974 Celica. It was someone else's project that had a later model 20R and 5-speed from a pickup dropped in it. Took very little to complete his project.

I traded it (+cash

) for a turbocharged Mustang that committed seppuku on the drive home.

Traded the broken turbo Mustang and a dirtbike for a brown, absolute base model/no options (just AM radio) 2.3 Mustang L.

I was having a hard time paying for full coverage insurance on a motorcycle and liability on the Mustang so I sold the Mustang and only had a bike for several years.
