Finally making the HPL plunge

Where was all this "its not expensive" sentiment when other higher priced boutique oils were mercilessly bashed in the past, even though they too were good for extended intervals?

Any vehicle approaching 300K miles does not need a boutique oil. PP or M1 or Edge, etc. is way more than the vehicle actually needs, and they too can be run for extended intervals.

Bandwaggoning at its finest.

Nobody said "need". If you run HPL you can run it much longer than off the shelf oil, it's just a fact backed up by countless UOA's.

So the price is a wash (and some here have claimed to save big by going with HPL with fleet situations), you get much better protection, and it cleans exceptionally well.

Where is the downside, exactly?

This is the first oil I've seen combing through bitog that has evidence of cleaning via cut open oil filter pics and engine internal pics. The last bustle I've seen is ARX, and that wasn't a finished lube, just a cleaner

At 258k miles, Ive finally decided to go the HPL route on my 2012 3.7 F150. Right now I have Motorcraft semi syn 5w30 with 3k on it in the sump. I usually run it 5k. I was thinking of draining a quart, adding a quart of HPL EC and run it 2k miles till I hit 5k then changing it with HPL 5w30 PCEO and do 8k ocis from here on out with oil analyses. Sound plan or should I do it differently with the EC?
Your plan seems fine although it might be advisable to check and change the filter about half way through the first full oil change interval. And, if you can, check the filter when you drain the EC and make the switch. Oil analysis won't give you the full picture, but checking the filter will be very helpful.

Apparently the OP thinks he "needs" it in his 13 year old truck that is approaching 300K miles.
I didn't see where he said he needs it. Show me what I missed, please.

But hey, it's his truck, his money, and his place to decide how to treat the vehicle. I agree that it may not be needed, but at this point it may still be helpful, and may help eek out a few more miles. And there's a bonus for BITOG: another data point on how the oil works as I'm sure the OP will post UOAs, possibly pics, and a good narrative. How many times has one member or another here suggested that another "take one for the team?" You could, if you'd like, consider this another contribution to the BITOG database.

Well he didn't use the word "need", he just want to try it.

There is no bad time to switch to HPL, even if the engine is well past its prime if the OCI is extended (which he said in the first post he is planning to do) then it can be financially beneficial as well. It's an amazing oil. I don't get the backlash but everyone is welcome to their opinion.

I fully agree but he posts here wanting public feedback. Feedback is then given and its challenged.

Are people just looking for HPL validation from others? It sure seems that way.

I don't know, and don't really want to get into it. No matter what anyone says, there will be different opinions and interpretations. I said my piece, for better or worse.

I did EC30 and ran it for 90 days/2k mi. There was no filter carbon debris on my clean engine but a subsequent 4k filter change on 6qt of HPL Euro no VII 5W-30 revealed on closer examination something otherwise. Stock up on filters and be prepared to do a 5K filter changes until the presence of carbon debris is sufficiently absent.

Since day one, the engine received documented 5K OCI.
