I have a Frantz on the motor last oil change was at 145,000 when I did the intake manifold gasket. I started with mobile 1 5w30 and changed the tp roll every 3,000 miles with scotts 1000 TP and whatever cheap oil I had laying around (supertech, shell, havoline). The truck started to leak a few drops of oil overnight on the new driveway so I decided to add a bottle of auto-rx to see if it would help at 20,000 miles into the run the oil was pretty clear on the dip stick just a light brown color. Left the Auto-RX in there for 2,000 miles and the oil started to look pretty dark so I finally changed it tonight. 22,000 miles since the drain plug was removed 167,203 miles on the truck. If the oil leak continues I'll change the stock remote oil filter/cooler lines (AGAIN, did them 3 years ago with the newer dorman 3 crimp style lines). I was gonna do an oil analysis but just didn't want to waste the money since the auto-rx was in there and figured it would screw up the reading maybe. Just thought someone might like to know.

What? You just about got to a steady state on the sump

That's about how long it takes to get the original sump to be the below the % of newer oil in the engine.

Good show!! So, essentially, if we threw out the M1 and just counted your original sump and your adds ..you used 12-13 quarts for 22k ..or nearly 2k per quart. Compared to a 5 quart sump ..that would require somewhere around 9-10k to match it in value ...if I'm reasoning it correctly.

So the oil really was not the oil that was put in it at first! But it is a good method, one of many that work and have been proven.

How often did you change the full flow? this would add into the calculation.

It takes a long time to get rid of the original sump.

4+1 for the tp filter (easier math)
100% new oil
3k 80% 3k 20% new oil
6k 64% 6k 16% 3k 20% new oil
9k 51.4% 9k 12.8% 6k 16% 3k 20% new
12k 41.1 12k 10.2 9k 12.8 6k 16% 3k 20% new
15k 32.9 15k 8% 12k 10.2% 9k 12.8% 6k 16% 3k 20% new
18k 26.3 18k 6.4% 15k 8% 12k 10.2% 9k 12.8% 6k 16%3k 20% new
21k 21% 21k 5.1 18k 6.4% 15k 8% 12k 10.2% 9k 12.8% 6k 16% 3k 20% new

at about this point ..the oldest oil starts moving down in % with the new quart of oil.

Original oil
21k 21%
24k 16.8%
27k 13.4%
30k 10.8%
33k 8.6%
36k 6.9%
39k 5.5%
42k 4.4%

A simpler way is to just start with 5 and work your 80% down to where you feel good about it
