That settles it. One filter was not torn so they are all good now.

2011 ... back when quality was good.

I said any filter. I am no way suggesting he use a Purolator, I wouldn't anymore after quality went down hill.

I would bet over 3 years, the average person would not be bankrupt spending $3 more for a Fram Ultra over a Baldwin etc which has a nitrile valve. That's one dollar per year extra. Toss it in recycling at the 1500 miles and repeat the cycle.

Fram does not list an Ultra for a small block Chevy.

Specifically which SBC?

Frams show a XG30 for a 1985 Camaro with the 5.0L V8 which would be a SBC type engine. They show the same XG30 for a 1975 Camaro 5.7L V8.

I dont know what the difference is between the XG5 and the TG30 but the Fram website only lists PM30, HM30 and TG30 for my 70 Camaro. It appears that they dont even make an XG30.

The 5 has an anti drain back valve. The 30 and 13 don't.

Yeah, and the 5 is about an inch longer. I'll have to check whether the extra inch will create a ground clearance issue. The anti drain back valve isn't needed, but shouldn't hurt, since the filter is mounted thread end up.

The 13 and 5 are the same length. The 30 is the short version of the 13. I think there is a short version of the 5 but don't know the number off the top of my head.

I had a 84 impala and an 84 caprice with 305s. They specked the ph30 but I ran across some cheap longer purolators and they had no clearance problems but those cars had the same size pans as the trucks. I don't know about camero.
