Oil filters for the Zetec engine are hideously expensive, if you can even find them in the first place.
Wix is the only manufacturer of Zetec filters that are actually sold in stores (buying online means expensive shipping). Part number 51315 (Napa Gold 1315)
The Napa Gold 1315 is $7.69, and the Platinum is $12.49, The Silver is on sale for $4.03 (regular price $5.29)
Fram doesn't make an Ultra XG8316 (the only Fram worth buying), and the lower Frams (Soft Guard and OCOD) why even bother. Plus, nobody even carries the TG8316.
The Mobil 1 M1-211 isn't sold in stores (online-only)
Nobody on the east cost seems to carry Baldwin or Hastings.
Which leaves Wix/Napa, but they cost more than normal due to a special design for the Zetec (which is also why Purolator has all but discontinued the PL25230, no more Motorcraft FL-2005)
So, is Napa Silver durable enough to last an entire year?

For a couple more dollars or less just get the Napa Gold it will easily last 10,000..I used them and tore them apart many times with no issues to filter. I use and am currently using P1 filter and as many as I tore apart never seen any damage, [censored] the pleats weren't even wavy, but that is on my car.

And what's your beef with ToughGuard filters? There aren't many here who complain about them.
I am a big fan of the Silvers but IMO they are NOT 10k filters. They are plain cellulose paper media filters intended for shorter OCI's, no synthetic blend in them at all as far as I know.
Seven bucks a year for a Gold to filter your oil for a full year doesn't seem cost prohibitive.

The Zetec engine my sister used to have in her Escort ZX2 took the Motorcraft FL-400S, which I think can be had for less than $5. I didn't really consider that very expensive. From what I've read, it superseded the FL2005. It has that special bypass set-up, too. Her 3.8L Windstar also takes the FL-400S, but I found Hastings filters online for around $4 shipped that I ended up getting instead.

So the Platinum looks like the longest OCI filter from NAPA and possibly the right choice.

RockAuto has hastings for $2.98ea (along with a ton of other options). Can get 3 shipped for under $18. Buy more if you're worried about price per unit. Or try amazon and get free shipping if buying other items.
Its really not that hard.
OK, fine, I'll try the Tough Guard. I just picked up a TG8316 at Walmart.
Interestingly though, online it says out of stock in the store I went to, but there was at least one other TG8316 on the shelf besides the one I got. And while I was there, I saw a can of death in a Bosch D+ box.
Better cross my fingers!
