Teach me your ways!!! Im never able to find a deal on oil. Walmart has it all cheaper.. That's all I know.

Ever find deals on PYB?

No deals on PYB lately but, I have scored PYB/PP in the past where I actually made money on the deal(s) WHEN...

*Oil was already on sale at the store
*There was a Mfg Rebate...AND
*I had an in-store coupon for "X" amnt of $ off of "Y" amnt of $ spent. Often netting me a very small proffit after all is said an done(tax/postage, my time and mpg)

MOSTLY: It often happens to be that I'm in the right place/right time situation. I shop at AdvanceAutoParts, AutoZone & PepBoys often and find oils on closeout in the front of the store in AAP's specific section for these types of items. These aren't advertised, you'd have to be in the store at that time. Big Lot's too!

It was deffinately better just a few years ago as I think these parts stores now are keeping a lower inventory so that these closeouts DON'T happen!

Recently, I picked up 5qts of PEAK 5W20 Synthetic for a buck/qt on closeout at AAP. It was at the checkout register in the shelf below the parts counter where they were below our sitelines. Sometime we just have to look a bit closer apon leaving the stores.

Often, my local PB's has a table full of products for a $1. Lots of this stuff I don't want but, sometime it's detail products or ATF or motor cycle oils in 20W50 but, the deals are there.

The discounted/closeout oils seem to be 15w40 or 20w50...CHEAP! I don't need those but, I'll look for something like 10w40 which I'll use for summer time in certain vehicles.

I do look for sales on oil from our BITOG - "Product Rebate, Sales and Promotion" section also, listed from other Bob's members. Often, these are regeion specific but, it's worth a look. I'll look for the products when I go out to shop. I don't just run out of the houes as soon as I hear that a sale is going on

Also, I use the MFG. Rebates in conjunction with the store sale(if possible). I'll work the system without being fraudulent(NOT doubling up on the rebates illeagely) though I am sure many will do the wrong thing.

What I can't find lately is the 50cent/qt oils deals the way that I did only several years ago but, these deals are around too! My best deals these days are more like...$1.20-$1.80/qt. So today, I feel if I am paying less than $2/qt, I'm doing OK!

Chevron & Havoline since having multiple cars/bikes the MID '70's...

I find the answers interesting both geographically and over the time frame... West Coast vs. "Heartland" vs. East Coast, Baby Boomers vs. Slackers vs. Gen X, etc.

Cheers!

Shell Rotella synthetic 5W-40. Slowed leakage in valve guides/stem seals on a 350,000 mile Honda Accord that had previously used 10W-30 synthetics of varying brands since new.

Castrol GTX, then moved to Syntec or M1.

I would never have considered Pennzoil until joining this forum. The Fiats have had PU exclusively.

Before BITOG I used Pennzoil because my dad ran that and QS and both of my grandpa's ran Pennzoil exclusively and it's still what I run today even after experimenting with Amsoil, M1, Castrol, and MC. We've always had good results with Pennzoil and never had any kind of oil related issues so I'm sticking with what works.

I do however use Amsoil for pretty much everything outside of the engine such as differentials, transmission etc.
