What business or individual who tows a camper, horse trailer, or heavy utility trailer is going to buy this truck? Say your going on vacation 1,000 miles pulling an RV. You have to stop every hour and a half for 45 minutes to recharge? You have to make like 9 stops to fuel compared to a gas or diesel that may need only 3 and take just 5-10 minutes each.

Meh, I hate electric vehicles!

Seriously. Not a great use of the vehicle. Literally no one will use it this way. I think EV trucks shouldn't exist in the first place. They're less efficient than smaller EVs and the range suffers when towing. I just don't understand why the EV section of this forum isn't to discuss EVs and not all of you bitching and questioning those who own them just to explain why you wouldn't own one.

Literally no one cares that you wouldn't buy an EV.

Oh and those who buy EVs wouldn't tow a large camper. They'd take tents and not waste resources to glamp in the woods.

Helpful video to highlight constraints of ev. One can't efficiently drive a ev from salt lake city to Denver on i80.. I have driven this route many, many times, and in no way for multiple reasons is a ev a match for this 500 mile interstate run nine out of twelve months per year.

Yes, I'm sure there's no chargers along I80...

Some of you just make stuff up.

You know what? Humor me. Why are they useless for 3/4 of a year? This should be good.

Do the the run from October through April and report back..,.. it will more likely than not be a educational experience. I did the run in my f350 and would bring two five gallon cans of fuel for the run as a backup..no way I would ever do that run in a ev, especially if I had a timeline.

You're going to have to explain this one. I've driven I80 many times, but it's been years. I don't recall anything out of the ordinary.

It should be noted, both the current Rivian and Lightning have rather small batteries. 130-135kwh.

The upcoming Rivian Max battery pack bumps up to about 180 kwh. Then the Silverado and Sierra EVs largest pack is around 212 kWh. Ram 1500 REV around 229 kWh. Cybertruck hopefully 200+ kWh. Then the “T3” Ford pickup comes 2025/2026 with likely a massive jump over the current Lightning range.

These first two trucks on the market are just the very start. It’s only going up from here.

And you’re likely going to be able to buy ICE HD pickups for heavy towing at least until 2040. Even GM, one of the biggest pushers of EV is saying they’ll likely only start to make some HD EV trucks in 2035.

That's a lot of weight.

Some will see the truck worth it so they can feel like they are saving the planet but then for 80% of what ! do the p/u would work.

This thread might educate you a bit. Very limited fuel stations on the 500 mile run, interstate gets shut down from hours to today, suicide mission for a ev nine months a year.

I have pulled a 5,000 pound travel up and down that interstate-over the "twin sisters" numerous times sucked alot of gas towing up those passes and fuel has never been a problem. It's "mountain pass" driving. Those of us that live out west know all about it.

Back in the early Nineties, I operated a concrete paver, relaying concrete pavement on on of those bad girls. Know the twin sister well. Use to drive from Evanston to Salt Lake City on weekends, mostly all down hill, That would be a perfect trip for an electric truck, coming back up to the twins sisters from Salt Lake City would not .

I believe most of these video's are just pointing out how powerful these electric vehicles are.. they sure aren't claming how good EV's are for long distance towing..

How do you make a pickup truck all but totally useless for its intended purpose?...... Electrify it!

don't you think it would depend on the intended use of a pickup truck.. more than the source of propulsion?

The "intended use" of a pickup is to haul and tow. Hence the name, "pickup truck". Yes you could buy one to drive to the grocery store in. Or take you kid to school. Just like you could a Kenworth semi. But that is not its intended purpose.

Both the ICE pickup and the Kenworth can do their intended jobs, AND take you to work, if called upon to do so. The EV pickup can't. At least not very well, as the video outlined.

These things remind me of the fake battle tanks armies puts on battlefields, to confuse the enemy into thinking they have capabilities they don't.

you are being generic. all trucks are tied to a fuel source, whether electric or liquid fueled. I'm saying the electric trucks actually outperform the liquid fueled versions and that if a person didn't drive them 300 miles a day they could charge them at their house.. which is probably more of a benefit than going to the gas station every day if a person was putting 300 miles per day on the truck. .

So, we, as a forum should not allow criticism and questioning?

I notice that the vast majority of your posts are in the EV section. Are you asking us to censor this section to your liking?

Eliminating all those posts that disagree with your position?

doesn't make much sense to me either.
Personally I'm not going to allow myself to be prejudiced against alternate power sources..
in the end the market does a better job of determining what vehicle choices there are than personal prejudices.
